Those of you who have written a native addon for Node.js will be familiar with the flaws and quirks of node-gyp. If you are a Node.js developer who has never written an addon, the most impressive thing about node-gyp is the error message when you run npm i (lol).
So I Googled how to compile the native addon manually and got no solid results, just a StackOverflow question that no one answered (and now I do). So I did some exploring, got a project template that doesn't require node-gyp, and wrote a blog post describing the whole process and pointing out some scenarios where you might not need NAPI to get native performance.

4th year college student here, graduating dapat pero kinulang pa. Minimum load kasi ako lagi nung online classes, kasi sobrang naapektuhan yung mental health ko nun. Since then lagi ko sinasabi sa sarili ko na ok lang ma-delay kesa naman sa wasakin ko ng tuluyan mental health ko, pero ngayon parang nire-regret ko na yung desisyon kong yun kasi nagsisimula na ata akong mapag-iwanan sa friend group ko.
Lahat kami same course, magkakaibigan since freshman, magkakaramay sa online classes. Pero ngayon napapaisip ako kung may substance ba talaga yung naging friendship namin dahil sa nangyari recently. Ako lang delayed saming 7 magkakaibigan, at lumala yung insecurity ko dito ngayong nagsisimula na graduation preps ng batch namin.
Sabi naman ng graduation organizers namin, included parin kaming mga delayed sa preps kaya dapat makisama parin kami kung gusto. Edi siyempre go parin ako. Ako pa nga nag-remind sa mga kaibigan ko na mag-submit ng yearbook entry nila, tas nakisama rin ako mag-isip ng pwedeng witty na linyahan. Pero ewan, nakakalungkot lang na di na nila binalik yung ganung energy sakin nung kailangan na mag-schedule ng grad pic photoshoot.
Nagpa-schedule silang lahat sa limited slots lang, tas di man nila ako sinama sa listahan o at least sinabihan bago mapuno dun. Nalaman ko nalang nung nag-chat isa sa kanila na nag-sign up na daw sila ng same schedule pero wala nang slots para sakin. Tinanong pa ako kung kasama daw ba ako sa photoshoot ng grad pic. Na-shock lang ako haha hanggang ngayon naluluha parin ako kakaisip lang ng nangyari. Alam naman nila na kasama parin ako sa grad preps, nakalagay rin naman sa lahat ng announcements na kasama mga delayed. So I really dont know exactly what I should be doing right now. This is definitely a horror story, but I'd also like some advice.
To start, the game itself isn't the normal dnd game. We're kind of using the dnd system but HEAVILY homebrewed from a wiki to play as benders in an Avatar the Last Airbender campaign. I had offered to purchase the new official rules for the ttrpg, but the dm wanted it to be dnd. We all live in different cities so we were playing over voice chat and roll 20.

A bit of background on the people in the game. This isn't normal dnd with normal classes, so I'll just use random names.
Firstly, me, I'm a forever DM going on about 6 years. I've been a player a couple times, but they never last and usually end with me having to DM again. I'm really passionate about ttrpgs in general, and honestly dnd is my least favorite but I still enjoy it. A running joke between my friends is my fist shaking about all the things other games do better than dnd that nobody knows because everyone only ever wants to play dnd. I dont want to ruin other people's enjoyment of the game, but sometimes I just get so wrapped up in talking about it. Because I do so much in ttrpgs and know how to make a broken character, I tend to make characters that are the exact opposite of optimized.
There is the DM, who has never DM'd dnd before. Then we have Bailey, who probably has the most mom-like tendancies in that she's a peacekeeper and goes out of her way to make sure we're all getting along. She played in the one page rpg hybrid game and had started to make a character for a different dnd game, but hadnt actually played before.

I had asked her to explain to me how we would be playing, because I was worried my character wouldn't work well if she really did insist on homebrewing dnd. Given that dnd's magic system is the polar opposite of ATLA, I really wasnt sure how this was going to go and my idea for a character was very not in the realm for a stereotypical water bender. Basically her conflict is similar to why Korra was bad at airbending. Her nature made it hard to get into the flow of waterbending, but instead allowed her to be proficient in controlling the temperature and I wanted to use her more as a physical fighter to start with. This had been approved when we were talking about our character concepts and the DM had talked to me about using my character for a twist with her backstory in the campaign. I had offered to help the DM but she insisted on waiting for session 0 to explain the homebrew because she didnt want to explain it more than once.
Session 0 comes around and it goes badly from the start. Bailey is busy and cant attend right away and Roll 20 just outright wont work on my tablet and it's a struggle on my phone. Althought the DM didnt want to explain things more than once, since we're all different levels of experience we're all processing the information she's telling us at different rates and getting hung up on different issues. Carol seemed okay, and I later learned this was because she and the DM had talked about how they would be playing ahead of time and she had the most expereince on Roll20. Freya was still new so she was asking a lot of the uual new player questions like what terms meant and where to add specific things to her character sheet. I was fine on the basic dnd knowledge but I had been correct that my character did not fit well with the homebrew rules so my questions were more about the details of the mechanics and how I could make things work. So no matter what, the dm had to ask a lot of questions and because we were all going at different paces she had to keep up with all of us in different spots. At one point I questioned if I could go against the homebrew which called for all waterbenders to be proficient in wisdom and constitution. My character specifically was made to have to earn her "wisdom" and related skills associated with it, so I didnt want wisdom to be my highest stat from the start. The DM didnt seem to understand but relented and told me to put it in dexterity since all of us were using the monk class. I asked if I could actually make my highest stat strength because it made sense for my character who values physical strength and fighting prowess to be physically strong. She told me no, because monks use dexterity for weapon attacks. This didnt sound right, but I thought maybe I was misremembering how monks worked and googled it before saying that monks can use dex or strength and I would prefer to use strength, even if it wasnt the optimal skill choice. She sounded frustrated but allowed it.
Honestly, it sounded like we were all getting a bit frustrated. Freya found the wiki the DM was reading off of from the screenshots she was sending us and gave me the link, so I decided to just wait to finish making my character in my free time since I was getting overwhelmed. I knew I needed to step back and calm down, so I decided to jut listen to them.
The DM got to how our abilities were going to work just as Bailey joined. The DM told her to do her abilities first and would go back on everything she missed after. The abilities themselves really didnt make sense. I understood we were using the monk class for the ki point pool to activate abilities but they were all a linear selection that didnt make sense for actual nuanced play. Carol and I were both waterbenders, so we would have the exact same abilities no matter what, and if I had statted my character like the DM wanted we would have had characters that worked exactly the same even though they were very different types of waterbenders. I asked the dm how it would work with my bender when I didnt want her to have access to some of the water spells and would have to wait till a much later level to use ice, or how Carol's character who was based off a tribe of plantbenders would work? She said we cold just rearrange the list, but it didnt really fix the problem in the long run (at some point you get bloodbending and it seemed weird to have to take a skill I didnt want)
Meanwhile the airbenders had a subclass selection that changed their pool of abilities and had more ki points to start with than the rest of us. Bailey noticed this and called it out as not seeming fair. They tried to explain it but she said sounded stressed when she said she really didnt understand. I tried to be firm and direct, which the DM had told me she prefered earlier that day... but Carol started to argue and our usual escalating feedback loop started. At some point I was so anxious from the conflict I knew I wasnt saying things clearly and was just getting more frustrated by my own inability to get my point across. The DM argued that it was hard on her end and I tried to empathize because I knew what she meant as someone who was usually the DM, but that she chose these rules and it was a different struggle on our end than it was from her's. I was pushing for empathy for our confusion, but Carol and the DM didnt seem to want to listen.
I tried one more time to take a breath and said, "Look, I know it's a joke that I "hate" dnd, but this is what I mean when I say people homebrew dnd to points where it doesnt work. I was annoyed at how I had been treated and there was something big going on at work so I didnt really have the mental energy to deal with this chat. A couple weeks later when things had calmed down I messaged her back explaining why I wanted to not play and why I had gotten upset. I tried to make sure she knew I wasnt upset with her or blaming her, but that Carol and I can be argumentative and how Bailey was treated wasnt okay with me. I decided to be direct and explain why I was having trouble with the homebrew, pointing out that this was why I had wanted to know the rules before hand so I could try and help make it easier by having a less conflicting character or go into it with solutions instead of questions she had to answer on the spot.
She admitted to being overwhelmed and having asked Carol to help her, which was why Carol was getting involved. She also said that I intimidated her because of my experience and that she was worried I was judging her.
We both apologized for a lot and I felt like the conversation was going well. She said she still wanted me to play and I said I wasnt sure, but that if I did I wanted to chat with her one on one about creating my character and I wanted to introduce her to safety tools to help mitigate conflict in and out of game. I just went through a really bad friendship breakup last year, so I feel really raw about losing friends right now and I didnt want to feel anxious about another conflict that wouldnt be handled well. I told her she didnt have to use the tools, just let me tell her about them.
The response I got was just bizzare.
"I'm disappointed you won't be continuing with us. Good luck with your future endeavors."
I wasn't sure how to take that. I was confused and a bit annoyed because the only barrier to me likely playing again was for her to learn about safe words and x cards. I wanted assurance things weren't going to get out of hand and instead I got... fired??? So I guess it's better I didn't play if that's the response but it's just so weird. I tried to joke back that she didnt have to be formal, I didnt put in my two weeks but she didnt say anything. Nobody said anything after that at all for two weeks up until tonight.
Freya and I play Valheim together and she had to get off to go play in the campaign and asked if I was going to join them and listen in. The thing is, Freya wants to run the next campaign after the Avatar one using Strixhaven content. She and I have talked about it and she's picked my brain about certain things she wants for her homebrew. It sounds fun. I want to play, but I also know that sometimes certain people arent meant to play together. I'm worried about getting into another conflict and I dont want to strain my relationships with them anymore than I feel I already have. I dont mean this to be a negative on the DM, but I think given Freya's dedication to learning the system which is mostly base dnd and not totally homebrewed and her more relaxed temperment that things will go better with her. She isnt biting off more than she can chew and she works as a general manager so she's more experienced with wrangling people.
Mostly I just dont know what to think. Was I in the wrong for suggesting safety tools? I know she said she was worried I was judging her, so maybe she thought I was being condescending or something? I just wanted to help and it's much easier to play when you know the DM is able to handle any conflicts that come up. My group utilizes the X Card for in game conflict and a safety word to pause the game for five minutes and have a personal chat with the DM for out of game conflcit. I had to learn the hard way why these things can be needed even between friends. And given that I know the twist with my character was that I would be working for the bad guys and relaying information to them, it would be just my luck for there to be some game bleed and to get some frustrated feelings aimed my way if I did too good of a job betraying them (I had a backup character, so I was prepared for my waterbender to not just get away with it all, I didnt want to work so much against the group that I was ruining their fun). I kind of feel justified in not wanting to play because I think there were a few red flags that wouldnt have worked for me, but maybe I am the problem? It's hard to say I wasn't judging her, but if I was it wasn't in a negative way. More that I was keeping an ear out in case she asked for anything and not keeping my mouth shut when she said things that were flat out not how things worked. I'm more of a rule of cool than a rules lawyer person, so I wouldnt say I was even that bad in that aspect either.
I don't know, but the whole thing has my head spinning. I finally got to be a player and didnt make it out of session 0.

I forgot how to organize data such that I get this result with the sunburst chart. It's a breakdown of anime figures I have. Colors correspond to theme, widths correspond to number of figures per lot, and heights correspond to figure size. Not sure about Excel version.
I don't need a breakdown of the whole thing, but maybe a sample of a few sections or something.
Also: Is it possible to make a sunburst chart that would skip levels, e.g., appear in level 1 and level 4, but not 2 or 3?
Also also: does Google Sheets do sunburst charts?

CommonCrawl is a research community effort that scrapes the web in a similar manner as Google-Bot or Bing-Bot. It periodically crawls the web, scrapes domains where it is permitted by a 'robots.txt' file and saves webdata into an archival format.The largest image dataset, LAION-5B, a list of 5 billion urls, was created by parsing the CommonCrawl project. The image urls link to a large number of copyrighted materials. No one has bothered to quantify the amount of copyrighted materials within this dataset.
LAION5B is just a list of URLs, when images are downloaded a copy is made. Whether or not it's permissible to use this copy for Machine Learning under Fair Use is to be determined. No one yet knows the answer to this question.
StabilityAI (and likely Midjourney as well) downloaded images using the LAION5B dataset and used the images to perform data mining and create their softwares with machine learning techniques.

Many platforms were scraped in the creation of LAION. This happened often where the website's Terms of Use directly state that web scraping is a violation, however there is ambiguity for some reason unclear to me. If you want to be active in this space, there's not much to be gained from arguing with defendants or proponents. Use the conversations to sharpen your thoughts. More importantly, do something. Contribute to researching the dataset black box, find something more to add to the story, file a lawsuit, talk to government, talk to your community, get active.If you like ML, you think all of this is fine, and you can find yourself in the dataset you can Opt-In at https://haveibeentrained.com/ . Maybe even consider releasing your work as CC0.
If you don't like ML, your work is in the dataset, consider looking into legal action or use Opt-Out on https://haveibeentrained.com/. (GPDR via LAION may also be a method in specific cases.)

But What about all the Technical Training Stuff?
Does it really matter that diffusion models work a particular way? That images aren't stored only analyzed?Regardless of technique the following statement will hold true: "Some believe the extraction of data patterns from copyrighted art will be defensible by fair use given it's transformative and novel nature, others disagree."
Splitting hairs on "learning" and how training works won't really resolve anything, just help you broaden your understanding of the process. The underlying issues of whether you believe public scraping protected works for ML training will remain regardless of the technique employed.

MISS C.U.N.T PAGEANT PREPARATION
After Gaga and Ru leave the werkroom the queens scurry to grab their luggage and claim their spots within the werkroom. We see Luxx push other queens things out the way so that she can claim the spot that she wants while other queens, like Malaysia, struggle to find an open work station.

In her confessional, A'Keria mentions that the first challenge hasn't even started yet and the other girls are already being cutthroat.
Monica talks with Shuga, Symone, and Olivia about the first challenge. She talks about how the stakes are high especially since they are all up against two heavy-hitting pageant girls. Symone mentions that she isn't threatened and that she thinks they all need to stand firm in the package that they brought because why else show up to Drag Race. Olivia then talks about the piece she is planning to wear for her hometown look and then starts to show it off to the other girls.

Brooke decides to pay tribute to her Canadian roots with wearing a sequinned mountie look. Malaysia, another Florida queen, wears a resort dress with a sunhat and sunshades. Olivia shows her NYC pride with a look inspired by Broadway and Luxx follows her with a tribute to Jersey that glamorizes of the Jersey Shore. Shuga wears a look that ties in the latin cultural influences that are prevalent in NYC and Sasha wears a culturally inspired Hawaiian look. Monica wears a look that shows the banjie side of southern black culture and A'Keria wears a rhinestoned cowgirl look. Symone wears a look that seems inspired by Hollywood Boulevard while Chad seems to reference the sunny skies and skyline of Los Angeles. Daya wears a look that pulls in the famous Arch as well as the more rural side of Missouri. Mayhem closes the category with a LA valley girl look accompanied with the perfect comedic strut.

JUDGING
Following all of the main stage runway presentations, the judges sit to discuss the queens' performances.

Michelle starts with Latrice and points out that she thinks that she is extremely polished and that she has a lot of personality which could take her far in the competition. RuPaul agrees and says that there's a spark to Latrice that pulls you in.
Ross then talks about how he found Brooke to be just absolutely show stopping. He gushes over her mountie look and says that she is going to be one to watch. Lady Gaga says that she thinks Brooke's interpretation of her look was impeccably done.
Carson moves on to Malaysia and says that she knows her figure and dresses it so well. Ross agrees and says that she looked great but that he wishes she presented with the same level of confidence as the other queens in the competition.
Lady Gaga then talks about Olivia next and mentions that she has a light to her and that when she was on stage she wanted to smile. Michelle brings up that she really enjoyed her Gaga look but wished that her Broadway look came across stronger.

RuPaul then uses that to transition to A'Keria and says that while the polish was 100% there that she couldn't put a finger on who she was as a drag artist. Carson says that she is definitely a beautiful queen but that there was a level of intrigue that seemed to be absent.
Michelle then talks about Symone and says that she was one of her favorites of the night because the references were on point and that even when she was Gaga she still exuded her own aesthetic. Lady Gaga agrees and says that she had a tricky outfit but that she is clearly a queen for the details because she nailed it.
Michelle thens says that Chad actually could make her rethink what her favorite looks of the night were because they were also so well done. RuPaul agrees and says that all of the girls are going to make it really tough on them as judges if they continue to perform at this level.
Ross then talks about Daya and tells her that she nailed it for him with her Gaga look because it was such a strong presentation. Carson agrees that she has real stage presence and that he really wants to see what more she can do this season.

Olivia opens up about being newer in drag and her experience makes some of the other queens question if she will last. Symone jokes with Daya about being the diversity queen so far in the group. Daya talks to the other girls about being Crystal Methyd's drag sister to which Malaysia mentions that she doesn't see the similarity in their styles.

Luxx talks about how stoked she is to be cast on her favorite show. The other girls look at her as a fashion queen until A'Keria walks in and talks about how big she is going to make the Davenport name this season. Daya jokes with her that the Davenports don't have a history of doing too well in the competition though. Monica comes in and the starts to butt heads with Luxx almost immediately as they don't seem to want to give the other the final word.

(Bit of a noob here so correct me if i say smth wrong here) to elaborate on the title, what do you use to record the characters you make with the jumps? Are there any character sheet you can recommend or do you just open google sheets when you wanna start a new jump?(Just wanna find a way to record this before i get too invested in a jump) Thanks!

I originally visited Japan in May 2017. It was absolutely incredible, and Iโve thought about it ever since. After nearly six years, Iโve decided that I finally want to go back this fall but need help finalizing my itinerary before booking my flights.
The first time I visited Japan I was in Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto, Arashiyama, Osaka, and Hiroshima. This time I plan to see Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji, Hakone, Kyoto, Arashiyama, Nara, and Osaka. I realize that's really similar to my first trip and while there's certainly things I want to see again there's a lot of new things in the same cities that I'd like to see as well. I'm still open to adding maybe one more place near Osaka or Tokyo before finally flying back home.

Questions:
- Is there anything you would change?
- Is there anything I'm missing that you would consider adding?
- Should I try to visit another city before returning to Tokyo? The fact that places like Kobe, Okayama, and even Hiroshima are so close to Osaka makes it tempting to extend the trip just a bit longer before returning to Tokyo.
- Alternatively, should I try to add another day or two to Tokyo? Spending more time in Tokyo or even taking a day trip to Nikko would be cool before finally flying back home.
