My Chief Scout has scouted two potential left wingers for me. One has come back with an 'A' rating and one with a 'B'.
The 'A', he has said is currently at the level below me with the potential to play at my level. The 'B', currently at my level with the potential to play at the level above.
Why is the 'A' rated higher? It's the same scout, so not an inconsistency between two scouts rating players differently. I can't work out why it would be.
I know scouts can be wrong and so on, but that wouldn't explain why he would rate a (in his eyes) lower potential player higher.
Any ideas?

I was reading up on research use exemptions in the US (e.g. Hatch–Waxman) and the corresponding "experimental use" exemptions in Europe in these two articles from 2015, and would love it if anyone has any perspective on my random thoughts below as someone just discovering this.

My lay interpretation is that Hatch-Waxman was originally intended to let generic drug manufacturers start doing clinical trials on their generic drug so that they could release the generic drug the day after a drug patent expires......but that the wording was so open-ended that one can try to argue that all pharma R&D and every technology they are using is exempt from patents because they're preparing "dossiers" for regulators.
In Europe my lay interpretation is that you have an exemption as long as you are experimenting on the patented technology itself (trying to make it better?), but everything is so vague that everyone just can claim they are doing research and experimenting if they want.
Meanwhile it seems like companies offering products and custom services are using/selling whatever technologies they want and sometimes take the trouble to indicate "research use only" on their websites. I've seen the "set of hands" argument used to indicate that they are not selling the licensed technology, but just provided the set of hands to the pharma company, but mostly for "first-sale" dates that would shorten the product life of a patented drug if one company (CRO/CDMO) had already sold it to another company (pharma) earlier.
Drug development costs from $500 million to $5B per approved drug and uses tons of patented "research tools" and technologies usually internally/secretly and through confidential agreements with suppliers/service providers in various geographies. Seems strange that this "research tool" and "service provider" market would be a free-for-all for whichever companies are willing to ignore patents.
If infringement litigation costs at least $10M and the laws are so ambiguous, it seems like a case of who ever has the most lawyers can do whatever they want. Am I understanding all of this correctly?

I think a great indication of how much times have changed are the reactions of Lorelai and Rory to free therapy. Imagine getting several free therapy sessions from your university because you feel overwhelmed and are going through a tough time. I’d go crazy with joy! Instead, they’re annoyed and almost insulted. I know that things were different back then so I don’t want to judge them too harshly.
Obviously I’m biased 😂 But the point is that I think society’s view on therapy has changed so much, and it’s reflected in newer tv shows.
I wish we had seen more of Rory working through her issues (without comparing herself to Martin Luther King Jr). A great talking point would’ve been the effect her fight with Lorelai had had on her. It can’t be easy to be that close to your mom and then not hear from each other for months. Sadly it wasn’t really dealt with, but I think times were different and the audience wasn’t necessarily looking for that in a comfort show.
What do you guys think? I’d love to hear some other povs!!

I gifted shares (employee awards RSUs from US company) about 4 years ago to my wife. We've been selling those to just below her Capital Gains allowances for the past 3 years.
These shares have increased enough now that it makes sense for us to transfer some back to me (I still receive them, but have full allowance for this year still) so that we can use my allowance this year. Especially since the allowance halves next year and the one after.
I've calculated the gain previously (section 104 holding), basically in a spreadsheet. When I transferred to her, I calculated what percentage went to her and separated capital gains calculations, since I still hold and still get awarded shares. So far all good.
But if we transfer say 100 shares back to me and I sell 70 before tax year end (so within 30 days of receiving). Do bed and breakfasting rules apply? E.g. the 70 I sell are exactly the 70 we transferred to me, so the gain is based on the cost for those 70.
This piece isn't spelt out in the HMRC documentation. I'd assume that's the case, but would rather not assume.
We actually want this to be the case because it means I can use my allowance rather than diluting my existing shares.
Then after we are in the next tax year, if I sell the other 30 within the 30 days, the same would apply? Or if I choose to sell after, I'd dilute the gain. E.g. say I own 200 shares with a higher acquisition cost, I need to pool as 230, calculate gain, then the sale would be from that pool of 230.
I appreciate this is a tax question, but uktax doesn't look very active.

My coworker (Daniel) had a cold last week and came into the office anyway. Naturally, I and another coworker (Beatrice) got sick.
With the terrible air quality this weekend, I developed a sinus infection that made it difficult and painful (sharp burning sensation in my sinuses) to breathe. I had to cancel all my plans and basically didn't leave my bed all weekend.
On Saturday I let my boss (Alfred) know that I might still be sick on Monday and that if I was, it might be good if I worked from home that day so as not to infect everyone else. He agreed. I mentioned that Beatrice also seemed sick, trying to insinuate that she should probably also work from home. On Sunday evening I was still pretty sick and asked what I should do. CEO Alfred said I should work from home, so I did.
I worked all day, got the doctor's note on my lunch break, and sent it to the HR person (Caitlin). 15 minutes before my shift end time Caitlin tells me that because it's just a cold I'm not supposed to work from home and that I should apply to retroactively use one of my annual leave days instead. CEO Alfred intervened and said that it wasn't sick leave because I was doing work all day. Caitlin said OK but seemed annoyed.
The doc said I could still be contagious for two or three more days, so I commuted and then worked in my in a separate room from my coworkers on Tuesday and Wednesday using my personal computer (why this is better than just working from home again, I don't know, but I figured it was better than pissing off Caitlin more. Beatrice and I still got sick even though Daniel was in that room with the door open last week, but I just closed the door and figured it was better than nothing.)
I was in the elevator with Daniel today after getting off and he mentioned that Caitlin and Beatrice seem irritated that I worked from home on Monday while Beatrice didn't. I told him I understand that they might feel that way, but that I did try to nudge Alfred towards letting Beatrice work from home on Monday and that if they wanted to WFH because they were sick they should have just asked. Daniel said it was still a bad idea and that there will likely be tension between me Beatrice and Caitlin tomorrow.
It is admittedly possible that CEO Alfred is being more lenient with me because I'm foreign. However, I got approval for everything in advance, did my work on time, and didn't make anyone else sick. I feel like Daniel should have just worked from home last week in the first place so none of us would have gotten sick, but I think he was too afraid to ask. It was probably the same with Caitlin, and that's why I tried to help her by putting in a word with Alfred.
I'm thinking about asking CEO Alfred, who is a pretty nice person and has been very reasonable with me so far, to just make it clear that everyone in the company should WFH if they are sick so I don't get 왕따ed for getting "special treatment." I sit right next to Caitlin and Beatrice all day long so it's going to be awkward if I don't do something to reduce the tension.
Is that a bad idea?
I know if I were to 눈치 봐 and do things the "Korean way" I would have just come in anyway and coughed and sneezed through the day, but imho especially after covid staying home and actually being productive without getting anyone else sick (and negatively impacting their productivity) trumps performing productivity so others can see me. I have been in and out of Korea for half my life so I know that perceptions are important here and I understand why they might feel the way they do, but tbh I just don't agree.
IMO the problem isn't that I worked from home, but rather that they either were too scared to ask for an accommodation they are entitled to (in which case CEO Alfred needs to make it clear that this is an option for everyone) or that they did ask and were told no (in which case CEO Alfred's actions were unfair, not mine.)
Should I just shrug it off and ignore any passive aggression or use my "oblivious 외국인카드" to the max and just try to confront the problem headon so everyone can WFH when they are sick? I honestly don't plan to stay here for very long so I'm leaning towards the latter since I have nothing to lose and it might help future employees, but idk.

My base in west point for about 3 months burnt down :( I’m not even really sure how. The only thing I had on was a lit antique oven that I just found, which I thought couldnt burn my house from the inside (maybe it was too close to a bookshelf or some unused generators or gas cans idk) It’s my first base that I’ve put this much effort into, and basically the whole house along with all my food, water supply, books, multiple generators, and crafts are gone. I am currently a full time college student (freshman) attending on scholarships and she is a high school drop out. I am working 2 jobs and i also clean houses as a side hustle. she doesn’t have a job and i’m okay with that but she won’t even do things like make an effort to study for her GED exam. Let me give you a run down of what today looked like. I woke up at 9am for my first job and worked until 11am and then went to a 45 minute class and then returned back to work until 2pm. While i was at work i was texting her all day asking for her to just at least make an effort to find some sort of study set or video online for her GED. I am willing to pay for her test fees and everything. After work at 2pm, i stopped by my house to do a few assignments for classes and had a house to clean at 3pm. i asked her to come help me clean because with two people it’s only a 1 hour job and the guy pays us $70 for the job and she was telling me how it’s a horrible deal and not worth it but it was obvious to me she just didn’t want to get out of bed to come work and i explained to her that we need the money. anyways i ended up going alone and when i got home i had to go straight to another class from 5-545. after class i went to another job until 8pm and came home and she was just on her phone on tiktok. i was exhausted so just made us both food and did some homework, showered and laid down and went to bed. anyways, all my family is saying that she’s using me and i understand that but i’m willing to go through the mental and emotional struggle to have the family i never had. When I start my PC I get all the way to the lock screen with the date and time. Once I press a key to get to the login screen the animation plays (the displayed items move up) but then they instantly reset to their original position. I can not get to the login screen and pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL has no effect either.
By cutting power 3 times in a row (about 3 times anyway, it's really inconsistent), I can access the recovery menu. Booting into safe mode results in a black screen with a cursor, key combinations do nothing there also. From the recovery menu I can also launch a cmd window which I was instructed to reset a certain folder from - only I can't remember which folder it was. This has been going on for a couple of days and I had never heard of that folder before, plus it was ChatGPT which recommended it and I currently don't have access to my history :D It was not any of the following: profile folder, AppData, WinSxS, Windows Update folder, DriverStore folder.
To access some data I needed, I set up a Windows PE installation on a flash drive. I've never used it before and might've done something wrong, but when I booted to it I also only got a cmd window. I expected a a basic UI, but this didn't help me. So I did what I should've done before WinPE anyway and set up a bootable Ubuntu flash drive. With this I was able to access all installed drives.
Until then I suspected that my boot drive (Samsung 970 Evo M.2) had failed, so I was surprised to be able to access it seemingly without problems. I'm neither experienced with corrupted windows installations nor failing/failed hard drives though, so I'm not sure whether this can be ruled out just because I can access the drive.
I'm not very worried about any data being lost because the data that matters is on a separate drive (the one I already retrieved some from). I only care about getting my PC to work again and not breaking anything that is not yet broken by trying the wrong things.
My next play would be to reinstall windows from the recovery menu. I haven't tried that yet because 1. I'm unsure what would happen if the drive is physically broken and 2. I'm worried about the data on my other drives. About 2.: can I just unplug the drives that have nothing to do with the windows installation and plug them back in once I fixed it?
What other actions would you recommend to try? Any ideas what may be causing the issue originally? Some of my parts do approach an age (see below) where them failing would be expected, but I'm not sure how to pinpoint which one from what I currently know. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I should also mention: Over the past ~year I had regular blue screens (on avg about once per day, 98% of the time it happened when waking up from hibernation), usually with stop codes like PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA or FLTMGR.SYS. From my research this suggests drivers, hard drives or RAM which I did all the appropriate actions for: look for updates (none ever found except GPU), run CHKDSK, run memtest. No problems were ever found so I just ended up running with it. No blue screen happened right before the above problem started, though.

Anymore, I have kind of reached a state of being that isn’t unhappiness, but also isn’t anything positive either. It almost feels like apathy, but an apathy that wants to be rid of itself. I don’t want to feel this way, but nothing I have done has even begun to make me feel anything. I’ve tried getting a job to try and make money while taking my mind off of my crushing boredom, but nobody around me wants to hire a disabled guy like me. I’ve tried making new friends, but they don’t stick. Hell, I’ve even tried getting back into my writing, but even that doesn’t fix it for more than a few minutes. I don’t know what it is that I want, though. Do I want peace of mind? Do I want somebody to fill the loneliness? Do I just want something to make me feel, no matter what the feelings are? I understand with my question that it was a wrong approach since she can feel it as a threat, an expectation to answer, a demand, etc. I wrote some long messages trying to explain, show my understanding and acceptance of the situation, and she ends up getting anxious and stressed. I feel frustrated that I can't explain myself because she can make assumptions about situations that I don't agree with. Now I am left with irritation, feeling misunderstood and unheard.
She is also going through a hard time, have the flue, feels burned out at the moment so there are many things that can trigger her and she can unmask, and I wish she would tell me how she feels because I don't know if it's because of those things or something else, and I can't even ask her because then it's a question that can create pressure.
I also cannot judge whether I appear weak by conceding and saying I understand, and I will implement it, or if it's better to express my frustration. I only want to appear understanding and show her that I accept her feelings and frustrations, that I listen to what she says, that I don't want to focus on her, and I don't want her to perceive me as weak. I hope she understands that I mean it with respect. She is not a friend or a child, but a grown woman, and I want to learn how to balance when to stand up for myself, express myself, and when to show understanding, acceptance, and "surrender."

I understand with my question that it was a wrong approach since she can feel it as a threat, an expectation to answer, a demand, etc. I wrote some long messages trying to explain, show my understanding and acceptance of the situation, and she ends up getting anxious and stressed. I feel frustrated that I can't explain myself because she can make assumptions about situations that I don't agree with. Now I am left with irritation, feeling misunderstood and unheard.
She is also going through a hard time, have the flue, feels burned out at the moment so there are many things that can trigger her and she can unmask, and I wish she would tell me how she feels because I don't know if it's because of those things or something else, and I can't even ask her because then it's a question that can create pressure.
I also cannot judge whether I appear weak by conceding and saying I understand, and I will implement it, or if it's better to express my frustration. I only want to appear understanding and show her that I accept her feelings and frustrations, that I listen to what she says, that I don't want to focus on her, and I don't want her to perceive me as weak. I hope she understands that I mean it with respect. She is not a friend or a child, but a grown woman, and I want to learn how to balance when to stand up for myself, express myself, and when to show understanding, acceptance, and "surrender."
For those of you in a relationship with a woman with PDA or for women, how do you balance your understanding while still expressing your dissatisfaction with a situation?
