After some backlash about the previous predetermined-matchup format, NWC is now using a more traditional pool play and bracket format. There are still some quirks, as noted below:

• UW and WWU won't play each other in Pool B. Instead, UW will play BYU, and WWU will play Victoria and BYU.
• #9 BYU and #14 Victoria are each only playing Friday and Saturday games and won't be part of the bracket.
• The top seeds in each pool will play BYU and Victoria: UBC plays BYU, while Carleton, Vermont, and Colorado play Victoria. If each of these teams also finishes atop their respective pools, this should provide some symmetry in number of games played, as the 2nd and 3rd finishers in each pool play a pre-quarter while the 1st finisher receives a bye to quarters.

So glad I found this group, I’ve been wanting somewhere to share my boyfriend and I’s story, buckle in, it’s a little long
Sometime at the end of January last year, I started playing video games online. Starting with a game called Counter Strike. I had only been playing a short time (probably less than 10 games) when I met a couple of people who invited me to queue with them next game. I agreed, and when we queued up for the next game, they added another player, RJ (not his real name, using for anonymity purposes). RJ asked who the new person was and I said hello. The first words he ever said to me were “Oh great, an e-girl, can’t wait to see how this goes.” We play one game together and I figured that would be the end of that. He had added me to his friends list though.
A few days later, we’re both online, and he invites me to play again, much to my surprise. We play a few games, and actually end up talking a good bit, and add each other on discord. This was February 7th 2022.
We start texting everyday, and gaming every night. This graduates to phone calls, which turn into FaceTimes. Eventually, we exchange numbers and move off the discord app as a means to communicate. We talked, Every. Day. We started getting closer, realized we had a lot in common. Honestly, it was just like we clicked, from the moment we started talking we couldn’t stay away from each other. I had just gotten out of a 4 year relationship and wasn’t looking to get into another. He had be hurt pretty badly by his last girl (won’t go into details) and borderline swore of females. So, there was no reason, after playing a few games, we should’ve become so attached to each other. I think one reason was because I could read him so well, even through text. He was more guarded than I was, but I’ve had my fair share of hurt (more so friends/parents) but I could see through his defense mechanisms, and call him out, and be understanding a patient and loving to him.
But. One issue. I lived in Pennsylvania and he lived in Florida. 900 miles apart.
I am a religious person, as is he. So I started praying on it, basically it consisted of “Lord, I feel like this man is right for me, in my soul he feels right, but I’m going to get hurt with us being so far apart. It’ll never work, please, if this isn’t what it feels like take him from my life because I won’t be able to do it”
That SAME week, my dad (I’m 21, but still live at home currently) stops me in the kitchen and just randomly asks “hey, how would you feel about moving to Florida?” My family has always wanted to move south, but it was always NC, never Florida. (And I hadn’t told them about the boy in Florida who I was falling for yet) Turns out his company had a job opening down there and he was considering taking it. The first thing I do is check how far the town we would move to is from RJ. My shock when it turns out I would be an hour away from him if this move happened.
So we start going through the process and my family decides to make a trip down to Florida to check out some properties. And I ask if we could possibly spend our first night in his city so I could meet with him in person. To my shock, and anyone who knows my parents, they agreed. This is now April. So two months after we started talking, we’re finally going to meet. I’m iffy on if I believe in Angel numbers, but out hotel room that night, after a 14 hours drive, was 222 aka the soulmate number. And at 11am the next day, we go to a nearby mall, and finally meet up in person. We were never awkward, it was comfortable from day one. We actually ended up kissing (more so making out, trying to keep this PG) in a dressing room in one of the stores. Literally had friends asking me what book I’m living in after hearing about it. We spent a blissful 2 hours together and then I had to go. We looked at property’s and then back to PA.
Another two months goes by, this time it’s even harder. I talk one of my girlfriends into a “girls trip” to Florida. But her and everyone knew it was just to see RJ. We go down for four days, I spent as much time with him as I can between his work. We would just sit in a car (he lives where he works, so we couldn’t hang out there) talking, lots and lots of talking and kissing until 3am.
FINALLY. In July of last year, my family made the move to Florida. We have a small farm (horses chickens etc) so it took us 19 hours to move all of them down there. And since we moved, seldom has there been a weekend we didn’t spend together.
And just this last week, RJ and I closed on a house we found together, I won’t be moving in with him for a bit, we have to build a barn and pasture for the horses, but I’m writing this after spending the last 3 days with him getting a few things set up, and cleaning and “playing house” with him. We also got a dog together. We still play games together every night. It just hit me on my way home from there, how crazy it is, a year ago, we were messaging 900 miles apart, after a chance meeting playing a video game (something I never did) falling for each other but thinking we were stupid for even letting ourselves get attached because of the distance to, now we have a house and are planning a wedding and a future. I also think back to his first comment, “can’t wait to see how this goes” and I make myself laugh thinking “well, you buy a house with the e-girl” Our story just makes me giddy, I never would’ve dreamed to have what I have with him, we have grown so much too, I could keep going on a thousand little details that mean something to me, but I don’t want to make this entirely too long. I just wanted people to share this with, if you made it to the end, thank you for reading❤️

I've been thinking a lot about the songs during scenes with Petey and why they were chosen and what they could mean for the show going forward...
(also I love Petey's character and Yul Vasquez's portrayal of him and how his artistry seeps into Petey and the map and the singing and everything and also the Peter and June references and 😭 this is why I'm a Pip's VIP)
for a while I thought that the allusions to dreams and sleeping were about Petey being the Sandman) in the sense of the E. T. A. Hoffmann short story where the Sandman steals children's eyes (there's a lot of eye stuff in this show, especially about colors of eyes 👀) or the myth about putting sand in children's eyes to help them sleep--plus the alchemist character in the short story really caught my eye~ bc I think there are heavy ties to alchemy in this show
also Dr. Coppelius makes faces with no eyes from fire, and that has to be related to Severance (he also wears an "ashen-gray coat" like the ones Helena and Cobel wear)
and Olympia and all the significance there with both mythology and automatons (and the city in WA)
this also bleeds into thoughts about Hermes (psychopomp, above and below, mercury, the number four, goats, fish, grain [of sand][Graner], the caduceus and slumber, commerce, merchants, Hermes Trismegistus, and even the homunculus, but I'll try to stay on topic hahaha)(@ lurkers pls tell me if I'm on track or not)
anyway, I was mainly going off the song in the video played at the funeral service as well as the line in the song played at Pip's, but then when I was rewatching last night I heard the lyric "baby, baby, don't get hooked on me / 'cause I'll just use you then I'll set you free" and reframed all of these songs as warnings, as coded messages as if they are what Petey is trying to tell Mark and perhaps June about Lumon
I also revisited the comment about playing cards on one of my favorite posts in this community, and I think that's a far more accurate interpretation coupled with Petey's songs as warnings against being Severed and being lulled by what Lumon wants you to think is happening
a few specific notes on the songs:

  • played at Pip's when Petey approaches Mark and gives him the 499 Half Loop Rd fucking awesome niece card in the red envelope that sets him down the rabbit hole of this mystery and starts him questioning bc "nothing down there is what they say"

  • key lyrics:
    • "guardian angels up above / take care of the one I love" << is Petey the guardian angel here?
    • "Sandman will be coming soon / singing you a slumber tune" << warning about Lumon in general? Graner being around? Cobel? the Severance chip?
• Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me
  • played during the reception before Petey's funeral service
  • also heard relatively prominently is someone saying this is the second time they've been here...
  • key lyrics:

    • "Peter" means "rock" or "stone"
  • all of the lyrics can be understood in the context of this is a warning about getting the Severance procedure and the dangers of Lumon
    • particularly, though, "exit light / enter night / grain of sand / we're off to never-never land" referring to maybe both death and the testing floor with the grain of sand being the Severance chip as the tool of the Sandman

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Disclaimer: I'm fully aware my numbers aren't that bad. My doctor told me as much this year. However, last year he made it a point to tell me to eat healthier and exercise more.
Last year I had some blood work done and to my surprised my LDL was elevated. I was alarmed because I'm a pretty healthy person. I don't drink very often. I don't do any drugs. I eat pretty well. I take long walks a couple times a week. I am not like, a star athlete or anything, but I'm definitely healthy.

After I got my numbers last year my doctor gave a gentle recommendation to eat healthier and exercise more... I was already eating healthy and exercising though so I went even harder than I have been. I went hard on a healthy diet. I reduced my saturated fat intake. I upped my vegetables and fruits. Natural sources of soluble fiber are my friend. I eat oats with blueberries and chia seeds 5/7 days a week. I eat a big serving of leafy greens every single day. I opt for 2-3 veggies sides for dinner (roasted or sautéed in olive oil). I eat fish once a week. I eat red meat maybe a couple of times a month. I stick to beans and chicken for the most part as my protein. Occasionally pork cause I live in NC and how am I gonna pass up barbecue. Outside of my diet I walked every single day. One hour of walking almost every single day. Not during the winter though because F the cold, but if it is warm and not raining, I'm out walking.
Overall I'd say things look really good. My numbers have definitely improved. What I don't understand is WHY DID MY HDL GO DOWN? I basically don't use any more butter or vegetable oil. I cut out all the "bad fats" people warned me about. I thought for sure my HDL would be on the up. What else can I do to get that number to increase.
I should note, everyone in my family has high cholesterol. So even though I know my numbers weren't SUPER bad last year or anything, my movement in an undesirable direction was a concern for me. My mother is on a statin, my aunt is on a statin, my brothers (who have way worse numbers than I) will likely be put on a statin. My cousin who is far more healthy and active than me is also in the same boat as me. Similar numbers. Feels like maybe just some bad genes.

Hello all! First of all, I want to address that this is my main account and I used the alternative account I linked below to post on here in the past. I do not at all remember my login for that account and I have no idea how it even got disconnected so, I decided to post my life update from my main account. As of February 14th, 2023, I speak to everyone as a free woman! 99% of the time, a judge would take the recommendations of a court-appointed psychologist who does the evaluation on a ward of a Guardianship to decide what to do for a petition for Guardianship termination, and the doctor recommended my Guardianship be continued for 6 more months with less restrictions and the family member I'm with now being the temporary. But instead, the judge decided to go off the beaten path by going against what the doctor recommends and grant my petition for termination. I was fucking crying when court was over and was so happy! My lawyer told me this almost never happens and was on the verge of tears himself!
Now as for my nmom? Well, she behaved like a good sport at first, but then took credit for freeing me, and then went on the attack again on me and other family members. Claiming they poisoned me against her, I'm her mom how could I throw her away over one mistake, told me she could have dumped me off at my dads as a kid but didn't, switching in between being sweet and telling me she put a big tv screen in my room to angrily telling me that she is my mom and she demands that I answer her and calling me a coward....yeah, the whole narc nine-yards.
We did do a single joint session a month later per my idea so that I could tell her in a more face-to-face fashion in a controlled, mediated environment, that she is not allowed to control me, explain to her the root issue of why I left and what pushed me to, and tell her moving forward that I need to be NC for a few years to rebuild my life since I am starting over again from age 16 because of her stunting me and right now don't have the energy to rebuild a strained relationship with her. For the most part, it was civil. She even acknowledged and apologized for stunting me, saying mean things, and making me feel unheard. Even told me that 2022 was a bad year for her mentally and she was struggling with anxiety and depression. That was a start, and I even told her that I accepted her apologies and told her I'm glad she's doing better and I hope she continues to get better, but it wasn't okay what she did, and as a result, I didn’t trust her. She got a little combative near the end when I told her my boundary of going NC for a few years, claiming I'm quitting on her, throwing her away, and she's my mom and we should have more sessions to work it out in between us because she got hurt too and that I'm just sweeping it under the rug and how life doesn't work that way. But I held firm and told her she has a right to disagree, but she needs to understand that it's my choice. After the session, I turned off my old phone who's number she still has, then put it in a drawer, setting myself completely free.
It hasn't been easy, and there were days where I just wanted to sleep forever, but I would 100% do it all again if it meant obtaining my freedom.
What I am doing now? I will be embarking on a career change and become a Wildlife Biologist! I am also learning how to drive and got a new therapist who I talk to weekly to help better heal from everything. Granted, I get dreams and nightmares about her, but it's getting better. Some days can be difficult mentally but its residual trauma I am working through. I have gotten a lot of love and support from friends and family and I certainly could not have done it without them!
Anyway, just wanted to update a few people cuz I know there was some that wanted one. To those who are still fighting or are scared to fight, please fight for yourself. It's worth it and you deserve to live a stress free life.

I am playing as Italy and in the order box it says I can retreat NOR to STP(nc), but to my understanding of the rules, a unit can not retreat to a region that was left vacant via a bounce/standoff.
Is it different, because of the multiple coast; bug on PlayDiplomacy part, different rule for PlayDiplomacy, because that unit was part of the bounce, or am I just incorrect?

I'm 36(f) years old and I'm finally done. My Nmom's collapse started when my estepdad and her sold their house in our city and moved to a small town three hours away. Without the external validation she was used to getting from all of us she started to spiral. She would routinely get upset with everyone in her life for not visiting her often enough. Visits entail 6 hours of driving and having to hang out for an entire weekend in a house they both chain-smoke in. She's bored and she's lonely, but she actively chose to move away. Everyone has their own reasons for not being able to come as often as she demands, but my own reason is my husband is battling stage 4 cancer and being surrounded by cigarette smoke is gross and triggering. I set a boundary that we wouldn't come down unless they stopped smoking inside. Eventually we stopped going after they showed this was not something they would do in order to see us. I became enemy number one and was stonewalled and scapegoated by her. It was unbearably painful to be dismissed and diminished by her because I couldn't cater to her needs, while I was going through some really traumatic stuff in my life.
This fall, out of nowhere, my mom accused my (30 years family friend but has been in my life so long she's my aunt) aunt of wanting to sleep with my Estepdad. The idea is so absurd and delusional that I initially was worried nmom might be getting early onset dementia. I cannot stress enough how far-fetched and inconceivable this was. My aunt was incredibly hurt and still is. Aunt and her family are very close knit and we all spend holidays together. Weeks later, my VERY pregnant sister was hosting Thanksgiving and sets a boundary that if nmom wants to come for the holiday and stay in her home for the weekend, she needed to make things right with my aunt. My nmom lies about making amends and comes anyways. On Thanksgiving nmom gets black out drunk and doubles down on accusing my aunt in front of everyone, including my sister's in-laws. It was absolutely humiliating. My aunt and cousins leave embarrassed and upset. Nmom runs outside and starts crying loudly to get attention. My stepdad tries to wrangle my sister and me outside to comfort her. I decline to be her supply and go home. My pregnant sister goes outside in the cold and becomes her punching bag for two hours. When my sister has enough and comes inside it triggers her Nest camera and there is a recording of my nmom and Estepdad both saying awful things about my sister and me. After ruining the holiday my sister worked so hard to host and shitting all over my sister, my aunt and everyone else's holiday in the process, Nmom finally decides that she is going to drive three hours home, drunk.
I haven't spoken to her since that day. She's made no attempt to apologize to me or anyone else at Thanksgiving. She did not attend the baby shower I threw for my sister in December (thank God, honestly.) I didn't hear a word from her on my birthday. Sister and I have both decided to go 100% NC with her. She tried to pretend that nothing happened when she reached out to my sister DAYS before her due date, after months of radio silence. I blocked her and every potential flying monkey on social media. She sent me a text message last week "Are you blocking me?" I didn't respond. It's been months and that's all she has to say to me.
I still feel guilt and sadness. My mom has a newborn grandchild she will probably never meet. She's just unhappily rotting in her isolated town in the bed she made for herself. Narc collapse is so sad and pitiful to watch.

Edit to add: I just want to thank everyone so much for all your kind words, the amount of support I have received has been amazing and has helped more than you could ever know in this really awful time in my life.

It's been quite a long time since my last post as I have been NC with DH's entire family and all has been quiet for the most part, as far as I know.

I come with sad news today:
DH and I have separated, I have moved out and we will be getting divorced.
The post today has quite a lot to do with DH but obviously, this is JNMIL so I will keep the post to just steamroller's (and some sil's) stuff, I will leave a comment with the context of DH's stuff if you're interested.

This brings me to my post for today.
This happened a few weeks ago but it's taken a long time to get back to some normality, also dealing with a lot of BS from stbxh.
It was a hell of a day, my boss relayed the information to me after putting out the fire it created in his life.
A lady going by the name of "Karen", which let's say is the "sister name" of my Mils actual name, called my boss's ex-partner at her place of employment (information that could have only been acquired through her book of faces friends list - guess whos on that), this person asked for her by her facebook profile name (not her actual name and not the one she uses at work), apparently, they had been trying to get to her for days but she had not been scheduled those days.
Anyway, this person, described as sounding in their mid to late 50s, went on to tell her that I had been having an affair with her ex-partner (they separated a handful of months ago) and that they thought she has a *right to know*, then another person (described as sounding early to mid 30's and with an Italian accent) told her that they were letting her know as they were concerned because she has kids, and as a parent of 3 children themselves they were concerned for the safety of her children around me. They then quickly hung up the phone.
This as you can imagine caused a significant issue with my work, I had to sit a serious HR meeting while the owner decided if I could keep my job as my boss filed a complaint, and my boss had to go on stress leave because of the issues it caused between his ex-partner and their arrangements with their kids (spoken agreement, not court mandated), ntm he is my direct line manager and it created an incredibly awkward situation at work.
Once the dust settled and I was able to explain the situation I passed on everything that had been happening in my relationship and all the information I have regarding SR and sil, including their phone numbers, my boss and his ex-partner then called both numbers (thankfully got their message banks) and she confirmed it was their voices.

Thankfully things have mostly calmed down now and I was able to keep my job, but w.t.f.
​
TLDR: Mil and Sill called my boss's ex-partner at her work, accused me of having an affair with my boss and heavily implied the lie they have been spreading that I'm a child abuser.
