Best Dinners by far were STACK(Mirage) and Vic and Anthoneys-these places have their food together. Worst by far was the $89 NY Strip at Binions Steakhouse(The Horseshoe-Old Ballys), the Steak was so salty it was nearly inedible and the only Baked Potato they offered was one with all the fixings-I ordered just the potato and it too was so salty almost inedible and seemed to be an "old" potato. Also no bread service here-at a Steak place? Also never order the "salads"_ at the Water Grill(Caesars)-we had 2 of the 4 on their Lunch Menu and the things come out all chopped up like a coleslaw and coated with whatever they thought was a dressing-all mushy-it almost made me throwup-can't believe I paid $30 for it-should have requested an "I ain't paying for whatever you call THAT".

2023.03.30 11:04 Master_Kura How my 21st birthday went
This was a few months ago. Sorry if I wrote this before.
Two family members wanna take me to a restaurant, their treat. Mom says she wanna go to a steakhouse. "Everyone loves steakhouses." I don't eat meat, so I pick a lovely Chinese restaurant.
She whines the whole way there. No one was gonna like it. I was being selfish by making everyone eat food they'll hate.
There's a million things on the menu, but she's decided everything is gross and can't order any of it. She's never heard any of it, so it must be disgusting. Keep in mind this place is very Americanized. It has orange chicken, general Tso's, terriyaki beef. I know she likes some of this stuff. But no. All inedible to her.
So she tells the waiter to bring her rice and shrimp. They bring exactly that to her, and she whines it's horrible and bland, demands a brown sauce that's "like gravy." But it's not teriyaki or soy. She can't name it and gets upset the waiter is "incompetent."
See? She knew this place would be terrible! The food is awful. How could I ever eat here? At the end of it, my family doesn't take their food in to go boxes. She whispers in my ear this means they hated it. It's proof I'm selfish for bringing them to such an awful place. Ofc, she now wants 30 pictures of me smiling and hugging her for Facebook.
We go to a bakery after, and she whines I didn't choose the cake she wanted. The worker asks if I want anything written on it. She happily exclaims, "Fatty!" The worker looks uncomfortable.
Finally, home. She starts eating the cake while I lock myself in my room and feel like shit. I breathe. Later, I ask why she wanted to write "fatty" on the cake, and she says that never happened and I must have misheard her.
I close my eyes and try to take in air, but instead drown in her bullshit.

2023.03.29 06:42 Shanedugg 6 days of great eats in NYC..
Coming all the way from Vancouver, Canada I recently had the great blessing to be able to stay in NYC for 6 days and here is the list of places I ate at and my short reviews:
Night 1
NR ramen cocktail bar in the UES. We went there last year and had a bit more enjoyable of an experience then due to the great service (thank you Ray!) but as per this time, the ramen was still good (nice chewy noodles and rich broth) and the cocktails inventive and on point. Wish they would do dessert. Really busy spot and I was happy to see others enjoying this fun ramen bar. 7/10.
Day 2
Rule of Thirds in Brooklyn. Brunch with cocktails, Japanese breakfast for my daughter and the souffle pancake for myself. Wife had... I forget. Everyone was happy. I really loved the cucumber side dish. The pancake was not as good as what I have had at a Japanese chain place called Gram but it was decent. Overall the room was great, service nice and the location a hit as we did a bunch of vintage shopping in Williamsburg right after. 7/10.
Night 2
Atomix. Wow. Just wow. Dream like atmosphere and the service was fantastic. The food was inventive, challenging and at all times delicious. There was a tuna, caviar and snap pea dish that blew my mind. They also made sea cucumber delicious. How is that even possible? The matcha cocktail was another scene stealer. And the rice cream dessert with fresh black truffle shavings, come on. Pure heaven. I have been a fan of Korean food for a long time. This version of Korean fine dining was something special. 10/10. Highest recommendation. I will never forget this meal.
Day 3
Hop Kee in Chinatown for lunch. This was a misstep. The portions were big but not delicious. Thr service was laughably atrocious but at least endearing. The server delivered the wonton soup and then began to dig around in it after it was on the table to make sure we got duck meat. We had in fact but wish we hadn't. The duck tasted gamey. The salt and pepper squid dish was rough. The prominent flavors here were salt and grease. The rest of the meal went about the same. We left wondering how any one could recommend this place. Is this the typical quality of Chinese food in NYC? If so, Vancouver blows it outta the water. 2 outta 10 as the free tea was nice as it helped us digest all the grease. Kinda cool to get fortune cookies too. Reminded me of when I was a kid.
Night 3
Keen's Steakhouse. We absolutely loved the meal and the experience of eating at this NYC institution. I took on the challenge of the mutton chop and did my best with that delicious beast of a dish. My wife and daughter split a massive T-bone and barely got through it. Creamed spinach and mashed potatoes for sides were both perfect and the Pimms went down smooth. House made carrot cake for dessert was a hit. Our server Thomas was fantastic. The place is fun. The prices more than fair. I cannot wait to return someday. 10/10.
Day 4
Off to Washington DC for the day but we did Liberty bagels for breakfast and those were well enjoyed on our Amtrak ride. I won't grade bagels though as I am not an expert. I pretty much have never had a bad bagel from a bagel shop that serves them fresh.
Day 5
Clocktower restaurant for breakfast. This was a mistake. Overpaid for a really sad excuse of a breakfast. I have had better instant oatmeal. Coffee was nice and regularly refilled. But I would never go back. 15 dollars for a smoothie in a oversized shot glass. What was I thinking. Yikes. 1/10.
Sushi 35 West for lunch number 1. Wow. Best sushi I have had in North American including a recent Michelin star winning place in Vancouver. We scoffed down this amazingly delicious fresh and fast food find in Herald Park. Every bite was superb. If I lived in NYC, I would be eating here 5 times a week easily. And for the prices, it is probably the best deal in town. 10/10.
Chick fil-A for lunch number 2. Daughter had to have the nuggets. Hey it is what it is. 5/10.
Papaya King for lunch number 3. The special combo with the Papaya drink, all scoffed down super quickly so we could get outta here and back to the hotel to rest up for our late dinner. It was my third visit and I place I will religiously return to every time I am back in NYC. It is a damn good hot dog and drink. Simple as that. 7/10.
Night 5
Eleven Madison Park. The all plant based menu had me hesitant to book EMP but given its proximity to our hotel I felt like I should book it since I kept asking myself when would we have the chance to do it again. I am so glad we did. Although the meal had some dishes far better than others, the room itself, the elite level of service (thank you Brandon) and the overall experience was one of a kind. The abundance of truffles on the menu and the truffle cocktail (called the mushroom) were heavenly. And the granola gift at the end is a perfect way to end a one of a kind experience. I appreciate you plants! I truly appreciate you. 10/10.
Day 6
Katz's Deli. Best pastrami this side of Schwartz's in Montreal. Loved the space and the experience. Price is crazy at 26 bux but we split the sandwich in 3 and all felt full leaving. The cherry sodas and the pickles were also great. 8/10.
Russ and Daughters for bagels and an egg cream. Loved this place and don't regret that egg cream no matter my lactose intolerance. Totally worth it.
Shake Shack at the airport for burgers and fries. Perfect way to end the trip. I have yet to eat a bad burger from SS. 7/10.
If you got through all that, thanks and also I hope some of these reviews help others in deciding where or where not to eat when visiting the amazing food mecca that is NYC. I will be back someday and Sushi 35 West better still be there!! Mama Mia, that sushi....

2023.03.29 02:28 Not_A_Real_Name44 Advice/Feedback: My (M42) marriage with my wife (F39) exploded. Where do I go next?
First, sincere apologies. I do have another reddit account, but very rarely post using that, let alone what's to follow below. Mods, if this I'm in violation of any rules, please let me know, so I can edit if needed. I just need to get this into the universe.
My wife and I have been together since the summer of 2006. We were married a handful of years later, and have been each other’s strongest supporters and partners in life from our first date up until, what feels like, today.
Through that time, it certainly hasn’t always been easy, and we’ve both had our own internal struggles and demons to face. I’d argue that we’re still trying to address those demons, which is certainly a contributing factor here. We both deal with feelings of depression and anxiety, those previously mentioned demons, and we’ve both been in and out of therapy through companies’ employee assistance programs but we’ve never found therapists that we’ve stuck with. To clarify: these have been our own individual therapists, not a couple’s. We have no children, but two nieces, each of our siblings have daughters around the same age. I had never been thrilled with the idea of having kids, and my wife had always echoed something similar, indicating that babysitting nieces was more her speed.
I can provide more context should anyone ask, but want to drill to the specific timing of things over the last few years. We had just entered a contract to sell our old ancient house in an area of town that didn’t have the best reputation when COVID-19 shut everything down. We continued with the process, and closed on a house in summer of 2020 that we both loved. It was a stressful process, with many sleepless nights and all the stresses that normally go along with moving but with COVID on top of all that. The new place offered plenty of space for her to start a massive flower garden in the backyard, crafts in her office during the winter months, and a lawn just big enough to keep me occupied for a few hours in the summer on a Saturday to mow, clip, trim and keep up appearances. On the surface, everything seemed fine for a double-income, no kids household.
Behind the scenes, we were both struggling. I was dealing with constant depression and imposter syndrome that plagued my every decision, personally and professionally. Physically, I had never felt more unattractive in my life. Intimacy between my wife and I struggled, to the point where making love, or having sex, completely stopped. We’d talk about it – about how it made her feel undesirable and she needed some kind of physical connection, but I still struggled with my own self-image and feelings of doubts. On top of that, I had openly begun thinking that I was dealing with low testosterone because any kind of sexual activity, even solo, felt more like a chore than a fun release. On the nights where she initiated, things would start great, but like clockwork, the blood would stop flowing and what started as something steamy ended with what felt like a bucket of cold water. This is self-diagnosis – as of right now – is just that. As of today, no testing has been done to confirm my thoughts. So we’d have these conversations, promise to talk more, but never did.
As the world started to open back up, my wife took up new hobbies, painting and star-gazing, and she met new friends who were married and had children. The conversation of kids would pop-up from time to time, but to me, it was nothing anything that serious. Certainly nothing that we end up calling “State of the Union” important. More like, “Maybe one day?” Or, “would adoption ever be an option?” To which I would say, "maybe one day." If these conversations were meant to be a trigger-point to a deeper talk, I never interpreted them as such. I never shut these ideas down, I never said “absolutely not” but I never pressed further.
In the past month, I had started to feel better – about a lot of things in life. Work was getting better for me – I actually don’t mind going into the office and conversing with people. My co-workers have even started saying, “Where has this version of Mr Not_A_Real_Name. been all this time? He’s a riot!” I’m in the middle of trying to figure out my career and the next steps there. My wife and I had a wonderful breakfast at a restaurant where we talked about what options and opportunities are available to someone with my skill level (no college but 10+ years in corporate America). I left that breakfast feeling so energized and so loved. As cliche as it sounded, it felt like the sun coming up after a long dark winter.
Last weekend, my wife and some of her girlfriends took a two hour trip from home for a girl’s weekend with several friends. Nothing out of the ordinary here, she’ll do that with her crew of friends every 6 months or so. We’ll exchange texts back and forth – she’d send me overly priced menu options at the steakhouse they found, I’d reply with a picture of our goofy dog’s underbite. She was coming home Monday afternoon, so I took Monday off so we could just spend the day together – sharing stories of our weekends. She came home, unpacked a little, and started to do some of her weekend laundry. I ran to the grocery store to get some provisions for dinner as the sun was staring to set.
When I got home, I noticed the atmosphere had changed. My wife’s face red, fighting back tears. She said, “you need to sit down, we need to have a talk.” I asked her what was going on, expecting the worst, but secretly hoping I had done something really stupid like leaving the toilet seat up. What transpired for the next 30 minutes was a rollercoaster of emotions, a definitive State of The Union.
The girl’s weekend ended up becoming a self-help session for my wife. Where she came to the conclusion that she was no longer happy with our relationship, that somehow I wasn’t happy with our relationship, and that she wanted to have a family, but couldn’t see that happening between the two of us. In hindsight, I knew this conversation could and, well, would happen, and now we were in the middle of it. Still, I was dumbstruck, flabbergasted, and initially very quiet. I was still processing the words she had said. I remember saying, “What does this mean? Are you saying we’re our marriage is over? Don’t I get a say in this?” She kept coming back to “I know you don’t want kids; you’ve said as much in the past.” We went around in circle for a bit, before she decided that she was going to leave for her friend’s house – one of the same ladies that she had spent the weekend with. I wanted to respect her wishes, didn’t want to force any hard discussion at such a heated point, so I told her that if she felt that was what was best in that moment, I wouldn’t stop her. As the garage door closed, the house never felt as cold or empty as it did in that moment. As I watched her drive down the street, I turned the front porch/garage lights on. If she wanted to come home, there would be a light on for her.
She sent me a text an hour later. She felt terrible, alone, and scared. She asked if she could come home and talk. Again, I said I’d be more than willing to if that was what we both thought was best. She came home – we hugged, we ugly cried, we talked for hours. She said that she came because she wanted to put in the effort to make us work – to make us WHOLE again. We made plans for the following morning: 1) we both take PTO from work. 2) We both reach out to our employers EPA program to arrange individual counseling as well as couples counseling. 3) We continue to have open dialogue, knowing that a nerve had been exposed and was very raw and real.
We were up early on Tuesday actioning these tasks. By noon, we had appointments locked-up and I had even completed my intake paperwork for therapy. I took it a step further and booked a doctor’s appointment for annual work and to discuss depression, low testosterone, and overall physical health. Our couple appointment was scheduled for March 28, her personal appointment the following week, mine the week after. The rest of last week was a delicate balance of sharing our feelings and trying to maintain a shred of normal life. I confided into someone at work the struggles we had been having, just to have some perspective and because I desperately needed a release valve. I told this person, “This is what I know: there’s a small sliver of thread here, and my wife and I are going to put in the work and spin this into GOLD.” I knew there was a long road ahead of us, but I knew we could tackle it together.
I woke up this morning with an anxious pit in my stomach. I worked from home today, know we had an afternoon tele-therapy appointment scheduled and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t worried about leaving an office at a specific time or fighting traffic. This was Priority 1 for me. About 30 minutes before the session was to kick-off, I went into my wife’s office to ask if we should log in to the session on separate devices. She turned from her desk, face once again red, eyes shimmering with tears. She said, “I’ll send you the link, but…I just don’t think this is going to work.” I slumped into the doorframe of her office. She said she had been writing and wanted to share some of her thoughts. She said that, to her, our love had become a plutonic kind of love, it had changed from a romantic relationship over the years and that she just didn’t see it changing. Again, I was floored. To have such a devastating just barely a week ago, to having that thin ray of hope, to having nothing. I tried to speak, but couldn’t really find the words. What would I say? What could I say that wouldn’t just sound like a man pleading for the world not to end on the checklist of grief? She said, more than once, “you’re a great man and I’m sorry I hurt you.”
We had our session, as planned. We both did some preliminary paperwork with the therapist, we both took a depression assessment, and made some brief introductions. That’s when I heard my wife say that she had just informed me that she wanted to proceed with pursuing a divorce prior to joining this call. There it was. In the open. The session continued for another 45 minutes. I ended up saying that I wanted us to work, but not at the expense of my wife’s happiness. At the end of the day, we both need to be happy. It’s unclear if we’ll even have a follow-up session. We ended the session. I put my head down on my desk, and after holding back tears for the last hour, finally cried. My wife made her way downstairs, came over to my desk and asked for a hug. I couldn’t even make eye contact. I couldn’t utter a sound. I didn’t move from my chair for what felt like forever. She asked if we could sit on the couch across the room and talk. At this point, shock took over, I went cold as ice and even started shivering. Once again, my wife said she was going to a friend’s house for the night. Once again, the same friend she went to last Monday night. The therapist did say that trying to talk in the here and now, with the one of us using the word “divorce” may not result in a productive conversation. My wife said, “maybe I come back tomorrow and we can talk more…or Thursday. I don’t know.” Again, I repeated that she needs to do what is best for her. As she left, she asked again for a hug, at this point I obliged. As she turned to the door she said, “you can text or call me if you need to talk.” After a brief pause, I was able to choke out, “what I want to talk about, and what you want to talk about no longer appear to be aligned.” She nodded, tearing up again, and she left. As before, I turned the outside light on. It’s been over 2 hours now. Aside from letting me know she had arrived safe at her destination, she hasn’t sent any other texts. I’ve sent nothing to her.
So I sit again in an empty house that feels very cold and suddenly very foreign. A pit in my stomach, my head spinning, my fingers numb. I don’t know what tomorrow brings. I don’t know what the next 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 60 minutes brings. My soulmate, my partner in crime, my everything is gone and I don’t know where to go or what to do next. If I could fix it, I would in a heartbeat. But it’s too late for that. It now feels like a very one-sided battle to keep our relationship alive. And that is what will keep me up tonight.

2023.03.28 16:19 TokkiJK Is Tei-an really that bad?
I’m kinda new to Dallas and I haven’t really explored any of the food here. I have a friend visiting and I wanted to take her to a nice place that isn’t “new American”. We’re just not really into steak/steakhouses.
Tei-an’a menu looks good but I’ve come across a poster here and there that said they didn’t enjoy it so I wanted to know what it is about the place people disliked and about the food overall.

Pulses
Pulses are great for bulking out things like soups, casseroles and meat sauces. They add extra flavour and texture and mean you can use less meat. This reduces the amount of fat you’re eating and also means your money will go further too, as pulses are usually cheaper than meat

2023.03.27 23:00 alexdoo [REVIEW] Virgin Voyage - Scarlett Lady
Not sure if this is allowed but I had to share my experience somewhere so anyone looking to do this cruise at least has some insight.
Context: I've taken a few cruises in the last 6 years. I'm not a cruise expert in the least sense but I'm familiar with what to expect. This one was for a bachelor party of a group of seven for a 5-day cruise out of Miami. In total, it was roughly $2000 for me and my friend to split a basic cabin together. Given the fact that we were expecting tons more out of a no-kids cruise, we were pretty disappointed, but there were great aspects of it as well.
Aesthetics: For the most part, the cruise was clean and very stylish and trendy. They designed all the bars and restaurant to really feel different from each other and still maintain a sense of luxury. The rooms are really cool, and they come with a tablet to control the TV, the air, and the lights. It also comes with presets to change the lights for meditation, sleep, and even one for sex. The bathrooms were tight but despite its size, the shower inside might be one of the best showers I've ever used on a cruise - let alone on vacation. Very soothing. They had some exclusive cabanas on the deck to rent, which looked cool to do if I came with my wife.
Food: Literally the best thing about the cruise. It was definitely a plus that all restaurants were free to dine at, with the exception of premium menu items but that didn't bother me one bit. Best ones were the Experimental Kitchen (Gastro) and Gunnbae (Korean BBQ). Although the general cafeteria was sit-down and time-consuming to wait for food, everything tasted beyond my expectations. A big plus for quick eats were the pizza cafe and the hot-dog bar next to the arcade/game room. Didn't get to try the ice cream bar but saw a lot of people eating them. Overall, if you hate cruise food, this one will definitely blow your mind.
Drinks: Service was fast and great, but nothing really stood out in terms of quality. What's cool is that every restaurant/lounge had a few exclusive drinks, and while some were hit or miss, nothing stood out to me as a must-have. Also there is no drink package available. You can buy a bar tab and they'll gift you a free $100, but there's not much way to "save" money when you drink - although they're reasonably priced. What is a huge plus was that they had drink stations at the cafeteria where you could get water, juice, or soda 24/7. They also had some unique cafes with premium coffee but you had to pay for those.
Activities: The biggest let down of the cruise. We paid a premium for a cruise with no kids and there were no risque activities at all. All the events were mostly wellness events (morning yoga, understanding your gut health, etc), or too cheesy/cringe such as a 90s boy band dance lesson. The most exciting one was a dodgeball game which they only held twice, and everything else was meh, such as the puzzle speed building and trivia. They had a painting-while-you-drink class but you had to pay for it, and it was sold out by the time I boarded the cruise. Aside from that, I thought it was cool that they had a few events for solo passengers to get to know each other and participate in activities. But beware if you're expecting tons to do - I had to find ways to entertain myself by bringing my journal and sketch pad.
Arcade/Game Room: I don't spend much time at the arcade on a cruise. If I go it's only on late nights when I'm bored. This one had a decent arcade filled with a bunch of retro machines that were all free to play. They had a 2 racing games but weren't connected for co-op. Best part about the game room were the two long table shuffleboards. They also had foosball and a huge selection of board games.
Karaoke: Probably the 2nd biggest let down of the cruise. For Virgin having all this "you're a rockstar" vibe and energy everywhere on the cruise, I was expecting an entire auditorium or club dedicated to karaoke. Nope - they had a shitty PA system set up in the same hallway where the arcade was. The worst part is that they held it right outside of the Steakhouse restaurant, so when I dined in there, I could hear the blast of terrible singing through the doors. They did have a few rooms for private karaoke, but there was no one tending to the station when I checked it out so that was a waste of time.
Clubs/Shows: This is the cruise's wheelhouse. Their main club "The Manor" is a fully-equipped club with 2 stories, lasers, fog machines, dancers, and plenty of lounge areas to chill when you're not on the dance floor. My only complaint about the clubs and parties is that the music sucks. The majority of their songs were essentially EDM remixes of popular songs. The shows themselves had really great production value for being cruises. My only observation is that these shows are definitely geared for the LGTBQ+ crowd, so you'll see a few performers in drag. I don't care about it at all but if you or someone you know isn't comfortable with that, then there's your warning. I'd also like to point out that at the lounge at the center of the ship, they have a few bands play there and it's an awesome post-dinner vibe.
Casino: I'm not a big gambler, but the casino was pretty solid. In addition to the usual slot machines, there were $10, $15, $25, and $100 tables of blackjack during the casino's peak hours. They also had roulette and craps. I was disappointed because there was a $1/$2 Texas Hold'em Tourney at 10pm, but it ended up being a digital poker table that seats 12. It was extremely easy to look at other people's cards because of the way the table is designed so I stopped playing midway because it was pointless.
Gym/Fitness: This is the other part the cruise nailed. The ship has a track on the top of the deck for people who like to walk, jog, run. It's pretty small but I enjoyed getting a morning run in with in the middle of the ocean - very refreshing air. It's also got a small basketball court that lights up at night where they also hold the dodgeball games. In the actual gym area, they have a ton of workout machines and equipment to use. They also had a small boxing ring on one side of the deck and outdoor fitness structures like bars to do sit-ups, push-ups, etc.
Other: They give you a wristband with a plastic module before you board the ship. That's how you enter your room and pay for your drinks. I'm not a fan of wearing accessories, but I thought it was extremely convenient to not have to worry about misplacing a room key. What's also cool is that the Virgin Beach Resort in Bimini functions the same way. Saves the hassle of needing to bring cash and all that to buy drinks. The resort itself looked very nice and clean, but again, there wasn't much to do aside from going into the water or lounging. Side note - the app fucking sucks. When I tried using it before and during the cruise, it would constantly crash and setting the reservations was a mission. I get what they're trying to do with it, but they need a better system for that.
BOTTOM LINE - Scarlet Lady is the perfect cruise if you're looking for something more low-key and relaxing with your partner. Don't expect the raunchy festivities like the commercials make it seem. Granted, everyone brings their own energy to the party, but even with no kids this ship, it failed to meet the hype. It's definitely not worth paying the premium in my experience, but it definitely proved that cruises can have amazing food and drinks.

2023.03.26 22:40 PatsyBrownTown Birthday Dinner Showdown - Steakhouses
I'm trying to decide between steakhouses for my wife's birthday dinner. We both really enjoy steak, and I've narrowed it down to a short list. It's between Guard & Grace and Steakhouse 10. I'm basing my short list on feedback I've seen in this sub, the menu, and overall reviews. It's a tough decision, but I'm sure I can't go wrong. Anyone here have any thoughts / experiences they are willing to share?
