Will I need to do anything with my bios, or will this just be a straight hardware swap? The board supports AMD 5000 out of the box, but I'm just wondering as I have a 3600 in there now.

2023.03.21 17:44 WildcatTM Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO - Inverted, Horizontal GPU (Asus ROG STRIX RTX 4090)

Greetings, all. I'm looking to build a Gen. 5 system next month. I've been dying to try my hands on a O11 Dynamic EVO build. My current case -- MSI MPG 100R -- has poor airflow, so I think anything would be an upgrade. I'm likely leaning into a STRIX RTX 4090, but I plan on doing an inverted layout with the GPU in horizontal position, but I have concerns on the whether the GPU can fit. I read conflicting information on this.

2023.03.21 17:41 mississippimouse First Time Gaming PC Build

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming and Content consumption
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$1500 CAD. could go up a bit if it’s for a great deal but preferably close to 1.5k
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
before the weekend, the sooner the better
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower,MB,PSU,CPU,GPU,Ram, and Fans/Cooler
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Canada. no stores close by so everything will have to be purchased online
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
not reusing but i have purchased a WD black 2TB SN850X, a PX277 Prime monitor, a V1 Keychron keyboard and a G Pro Hero wired mouse
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
i don’t think so but possibly a good bit in the future
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
no
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
no. whatever will fit my components and has good airflow
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
no
Extra Info
I think i would like to get a 13600kf for my CPU but am open to suggestions if there is better value or if it would be worth getting something weaker.
I would like to get the best GPU deal i can get but they seems to be very rare at the moment, I’m looking at 3060/3060ti without a deal
as for the rest, for my PSU i just want good brand & warranty and i’m not sure how much “extra” i should get based on what my system will require
for my MB, i would like one with some features that will improve quality of life while using it but i don’t need all the bells and whistles
for my Ram i think i will stay with DDR4 and get whatever the best for the cost is unless upgrading to DDR5 is that much better but from what i have read i wouldn’t notice it too much for the time being.
for my cooler i have no idea what i want/need when it comes to aiAIO but i’ll go with whatever is needed to maintain my CPU/everything else
and for my case i keep seeing the 4000D as having a good name but i don’t really care what my case looks like i just need pretty good airflow and i guess most importantly be able to fit all my components comfortably.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions it is very much appreciated. i’m Open to all kinds of builds, just looking to get the most out of my money and get back into gaming for the next few years.

2023.03.21 17:41 pasantru RAM compatibility

I bought a new pc about a month ago and having instability issues. Random BSOD (normally not to long after loging into w10 and w11), sometimes 2 or 3 in a row before log screen. Under ubuntu no problems appear, I'm mostly trying to grt windows stable. The errors involve memory, but tested it with memtest86+ (xmp disabled and multithreading enabled) and no errors in 4-6 passes.
Just checked the mobo web page and my exact model is not listed, I know that they can't test all models and that is probably not the issue. All instalations were clean and obly installing the necesary drivers no bloat from manufacturer.
Am I being paranoid or do I buy a kit that is listed?

2023.03.21 17:31 Lunertic Previously working build now fails to boot

AMD 5800x on a B550 fails to pass Dram light
I’m running into a very strange issue. An existing build is failing to BIOS after working for months
My build consists of:
The build was working up until just before Christmas last year then it failed to boot, only indicating an Orange DRAM light on the motherboard. I had the motherboard RMA’d and it was replaced and I’m just now rebuilding the system with the new replacement, support was excruciatingly slow to deal with. The issue still occurs. Lights go on, fans spin, DRAM light goes orange and nothing else happens.
So far I have tried the following: * Reflashing the BIOS to the most recent version * Starting with only 1 ram stick in the B2 slot (I have tried all 4 ram sticks from the build + 2 others I had extra) * Starting with no drives attached * Removing the GPU * Resetting CMOS (both battery removed and jumping the pins) * All of the Above in combination
I have a PC speaker hooked up but that’s not of much help as it never reaches BIOS so I can’t get an error tone.
I’m at my wits end here.

7900x3d not using CCD with extra l3 cache?
System specs:
- Ryzen 9 7900X3D - XFX MERC 6800xt - 16x2 GB DDR5 5200 MHz C36 (I know it's not ideal but I doubt it's the reason why my cpu isn't using the CCD with the extra L3 cache) - Asus Prime B650 Plus - Deepcool LS720 AIO

I was noticing worse performance compared to a friend on a 5800x3d and the same gpu in MSFS (same airport, same sceneries, same aircraft, same resolution & graphic settings, everything besides hardware was identical) by about 20~ fps. He suggested I install rivaturner to check what cores is using what, and so I did
https://preview.redd.it/p3spipx0c4pa1.png?width=391&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6e3a3e91d2e14d72ec307597a080d307912249b
Threads 1-12 are parked with 13-24 being used for MSFS it looks like, but they are running near 5.6 GHz which is the advertised boost clock speeds for my CPU. If I recall correctly, the CPU boost clock speed is only 5.6 GHz on the CCD without the extra L3 cache while the boost clocks for the CCD with the L3 cache should realistically be around 5.2-5.3 GHz boosting because it runs quite hotter, so is it not using the cores with the cache?
I have a 5 day old fresh install of Windows 11 with up-to-date GPU drivers, CPU drivers (I can see the 3D v-cache performance optimizer and the PPM provisioning file in device manager -> system devices so they are installed). I updated all the drivers yesterday and I'm getting the same result.
My BIOS version is also on the latest version with rev. 1222 being installed, which is the latest available BIOS version on ASUS's website.
What the hell is happening here -- I spent money on this cpu for the cache and I want it to be utilized. Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

  ;

& nbsp ;

2023.03.21 17:11 Peepeepoopoo86420 Low fps after case swap?

Specifically for Elden Ring I believe. I case swapped into a Corsair 4000D from a shitty Skytech pre built case. I also changed the CPU cooler. All the cables are plugged in right. My cpu temps are even better with the new cooler so I don't believe the cooler is the issue. Diablo 3 and Destiny 2 are still running how they were before but Elden Ring is only getting 30-50 fps at max settings at 1440p, while before the swap I was always at a stable 60fps same settings. I've updated Nvidia drivers to the lastest ones and that didn't help, and I've taken out my GPU and re-seated. Not sure what else to do. My GPU usage during Elden Ring is 99 percent while my CPU usage is around 30. Specs are Ryzen 5 5600x RTX 3080 32 GB ram Asus Prime B550 plus motherboard.

First off my build is GPU: 3080 TI CPU R9 5950X Ram: 32gb Monitors: 2 Samsung G7's 1 Asus Predator
Ok, so Windows does detect all 3 monitors. But my issue is that it will only allow 2/3 of any config at a time. Every time I try setting up the 3rd monitor as "extend display" It just auto disconnects. Dosen't even attempt to run it. The screen flickers nothing changes and that's it. I do not have an IGPU so that's not it. All drivers are updated, and Windows is updated. So I'm really stumped here. All the videos I've watched just act like this does not happen so they have been no help.

2023.03.21 16:59 StragoMagus70 Building a home file server/media player, feedback welcome

I'm looking to build a computer to host backup files and run Plex. I don't have any plans to have it do much more than that. I have an old laser printer that requires XP to print, so I'll occasionally run Oracle VM to print to that. I currently just use my regular computer. 32 GB RAM is probably overkill for the build, but the difference from 16GB to 32GB was only about $30 so I figured it was worth it. The video card included on the list is from an old build, it's been boxed up for several years now, I've included it on the list primarily to confirm compatibility, but thought it might be a bonus if Plex wants to do some transcoding it can eat up GPU power instead of CPU power. No hard drives are included as I already have them, shucked HDD for media and a SSD for the OS. I'm still not sure what I should use for an OS, maybe Windows Server 2016? Or any other recommendations would be helpful in that area. I wasn't able to add it to the list, because I didn't see a category, but I'll also be getting a SATA PCIE Card.

2023.03.21 16:57 Shaggygrizz7 AMD Radeon 6800xt not fitting into Asus Prime X670 motherboard

This is my first build, I have the correct slots for the graphics card but it seems to not fit into the highest slot.
I have the pins pulled down to hear when it snaps into place but the problem is on the opposite side. Is this something I may not be pushing hard enough down? I am hesitant to push harder and break it.
To describe it, the pcle x16 slots have two separate points that insert. One long section that is attached to the pin that will snap into place. One short section towards the HDMI ports. The short section seems to not fit properly.
I can upload some pictures if needed.

Note: I'm playing on my LG CX 65" TV via HDMI. For newer games, I'm running games at 1440p and NOT 4k. VRR is turned on but turning it off or using/not using V-Sync either in game or through GeForce Control Panel doesn't make much of a difference.
In most GPU intensive games, I cannot keep a steady frame rate AT ALL. When playing FPS games especially but mostly any game made within the past two years, I will consistently get over 60 FPS but I cannot keep a steady high frame rate.
For example: In Modern Warfare 2, the game and GeForce Experience app recommended settings for 1440P will get me consistently to around 100 FPS but I will, guaranteed, see microstuttering. If I cap the FPS to 70 in game, I'll again see the same microstuttering. The only fix I have is to lower the texture settings to normal or low. Why can I run a high FPS on most settings but can't keep the frame rate steady unless the textures are low quality? I'm baffled.

I was wondering if anyone could corroborate this, or clarify.

2023.03.21 16:38 Icy-Computer7556 Stuttering after installing 5800x3d chipset drivers :/ (Nvidia gpu)

Hello,
While I admit I'm a bit of a novice PC builder here, I generally can follow along with advice given pretty easily. I swapped from an AMD gpu to an Nvidia gpu (6700xt to 4070ti) and made sure to DDU in safe mode, pc shut down install new card, drivers etc. I tested after this and had no real major issues at all. So me being stupid and wanting to just click things decided to update my chipset drivers to the latest ones via the AMD website, after doing so I now notice that sometimes games stutter for a bit. For example a specific MMO I was playing black desert online was working flawlessly and no stutters, and now after the update to chipset drivers I get some stutter freezing for a second entering a town and using skill animations (something that shouldn't even make either devices struggle at all). So my question is, and maybe this is stupid lol, is it possible to revert back to the old chipset drivers where I had no issues at all? I see the ones that Asus armory crate showed the "latest ones" but then I see mine Asus shows 4.07.13.2243 and my current version shows 5.02.19.2221. Also weird thing I noticed is that looking in device manager it shows my 5800x3d drivers are from microsoft, shouldnt those also be from AMD?
Also: I did a bios update some time ago to the most current one before the "beta" and I forget it did reset my bios options, so I did set my ram speeds to what they should be and enabled resizable bar (I think this is akin to the SAM which I would have used with an AMD card?), which sort of helped but stutter still exists when it never did before.

Appreciate all your help and thanks a F ton for viewing this, just trying to get this crap sorted out haha. Just a frustrated gamer here clearly tinkering with to much LOL.

2023.03.21 16:13 Status_Ad_9815 Random freeze on bullseye

I have recently switched from Fedora to Debian, and overall I'm very happy. However, sometimes I get random freezes which make the system completely unresponsive that not even the caps lock respond.
I used the KDE non-free ISO since I have some hardware (wifi) that is not compatible with the free ISO.
Things to mention: - I have let open journalctl in one half o my screen so I could check the error as soon as the freeze happens but I had no luck, the freeze was not recorded at all in journal.
