Live in California. Bought our house brand new in 2021. A few months after the builder's 1 year warranty expired, our heater started acting up. It'd struggle to maintain set temperature.
We usually set our upstairs thermostat to 73 and downstairs to 72. Occasionally, when it's very cold outside (due to a cold wave, etc), the overnight temps would drop to 67/68F. It seems the thermostats themselves may be working fine: we hear clicking when temps are adjusted, screen shows "Heating", etc, when they send signal to the Carrier gas furnace. However, the furnace doesn't start every time. Even when it does, it runs for sometime and shuts itself off without reaching the set temp. This issue has been present since more than a month.
So, I called a licensed tech last week who went into the attic to investigate. Here was his diagnosis:
"Tested heat upstairs for extended period. Intermittently not working correctly. Drainage, hoses and wiring all appear correct. Sequence of operation makes it past transducer, then relay closes for HSI 1 sec then relay clicks open over 10-15 times with no error code. Carrier tech support & myself believe issue is with control board. Also possible drainage issue. Need unit running constantly to check drainage fully."
He said these new high efficiency heaters are very prone to failures. His suspicion is the control board. Although, he didn't sound very confident about that. He said the whole thing costs $900 to fix, which includes $400 for the part + shipping + return shipping for the broken part + labor. Apparently, the part is covered under Carrier's warranty but shipping is not. So, I would have to pay the full price of the new part, he'd ship the old part back to manufacturer, he'd get a check from them and he'd pay me back within 6 weeks.
I'm a total noob when it comes to HVAC systems. I don't want to get into my attic, figure things out myself and fix them. I don't mind paying pros to get the job done, but at the same time, I want to make sure, with collective wisdom, that we are getting accurate diagnosis and replacing actual broken parts instead of running experiments on my HVAC system with my own money, and that I'm not overpaying.

1. Is it normal to have a control board break so early in its life (<2 yrs old)?
   
2. Could it be something else that's broken based on what I said above?
   
3. Do you guys suggest that I take second opinion?
   
4. Is it normal to pay full price for a new part, get it shipped back to manufacturer and get the check back from the HVAC company?
   

Just sharing this story here so people can find it, as I don’t see this game mentioned enough. The subreddit WorldOfWarships is also banning all “uninstall” posts. I hope this post will either validate other WoWs players seeking an out, or potentially legislators to understand the devastating effect these “games” have.
I have ASD and ADHD, on top of generally an addictive personality. I’ve been very successful at my business so I sometimes don’t need to work for entire years.
I use to play WoWs Blitz on the iPad. It started innocently in 2017 by watching a standard YouTube tech channel who had one of those paid sponsorships. Looked like a free online game to play other people on the iPad. As with most games, I know I eventually get sick of it, but I didn’t expect what happened after.
I played the iPad game for over 2 years until the end of 2021. At that point, the game was so addictive that the developers stopped caring about fixing pretty bad bugs. Torpedoes would just pass through ships without causing any damage, bot players would make impossible turns. Basically we didn’t get any bugfixes anymore, just new content to spend one of the may in game currencies on. I got fed up with the bugs, but still wanted to shoot ships, and slowly the YouTube algorithms introduced me to gaming channels with WorldOfWarships gameplay. The PC version that inspired the iPad game I was playing. This game looked a lot more polished and was way more technical. It wasn’t just about hitting an enemy ship. It was about where you hit it, how you were angled, how they were angled, what shell type you werre using, the thickness of their armour, whether they had radar, smoke, what type of smoke…
After 3 years I really didn’t want to “grind” all the ship lines for all the nations again. “Grinding” in this game is the arduous job of trying to get the best Tier X ship after playing ever more and more games per tier untill you have an assortment of Tier X ships to play them at the highest tiers.
So I decided to buy an account. I despise WarGaming as a company because they integrate shameful gambling mechanics into their games in the form of Lootboxes, at the time of this writing, only illegal in Belgium, legal everywhere else. So I thought I’ll be smart and I’ll buy an account on the Dark Web. I found an account for $500 (or the price of 10 AAA game titles) from an Indonesian man, who was happy to get a month’s wage for an account that had all the ship lines grinded out, including some special premium ships that are no longer available for purchase. By all standards, I’ve done a great deal. I promised to myself that spending a large cost upfront meant I wasn’t ever to spend any real money in-game and by extention starve WarGaming of at least my money.
I kept that promise, but I misunderstood the game entirely.
After over a year of playing WoWs, it is safe to say that this is not a “game”. It is not a “game of shooting ships” either. That’s what the gamer believes it is, but just like cigarettes were “nicotine delivery devices” to Big Tobacco, and McDonalds is actually a real estage company that sells burgers to increase the value of the land the restaurants are sitting on, WarGaming is selling you lootboxes for eary premium access to new content OR they are buying time of you. Time you’re spending playing the game and providing canon fodder for their playerbase. It is extremely difficult to get “good” at the game. A winrate of over 60% is considered “unicum”. That means that only 1% of the playerbase win at most 6 out of 10 games they play. The average player therefore tends to lose more games than they win. This is incredibly infuriating at times, but also means that the dopamine hit from winning is much higher. In psychology – I did some research into the thing that cost me 5 years of my life – it is called “intermitted reinforcement”. It means that you’re frustrated most of the time, but every once in a while you’re rewarded.
The rewards are fairly random when you’re playing as a regular player. I had around 53% winrate overall. The majority of the the time what you do in battle matters not that much. Your winrate is largely determined by a combination of how your teammates play, and how “lucky” you are with the “RNG gods”, as they are referred to by the many streamers of the game.
The RNG gods is the “random” number generator that determines whether your shells will hit the enemy or splash all around them. This could mean the difference between doing no damage at all, or “devstriking” an enemy ship, meaning they are killed with one salvo. There is an optimal way of aiming, and there is a certain skill to it, hence the existence of the “unicums”, but it is fairly random for most people.
At the end of the day, you’re not playing a game to enjoy yourself. You’re not even playing a game. You’re on a neverending quest for dopamine and satifaction and you’re seeking out your luck. You’re at a glorified online casino, whether you’re actually “shooting” the pixel ships or whether you’re opening one of the many types of “containers” the game throws at you every day. You’re “saving up” one of the many ingame currencies for a very unaffordable and barely better ship that will only marginally increase you’re chances of winning (* does not apply to all premium ships).
In the last year, the game introduced the use of submarines, something WarGaming adamently promised not to bring into the game, and now also “hybrid battleships”, which are battleships capable of launching airplanes and attack you with them. These two additions, in my view anyway, have further increased the level of randomness of your chance to win at your game, and also increased the chances of being overwhelmed. Imagine an invisible submarine harrassing you nearby, but you can’t really deter, planes attacking you from above (that you can barely shoot down) on top of the already pretty complicated game of dealing with surface ships. Add my ASD to that and you get a level of frustration that I’ve never known any other game could get out of me.
I don’t get addicted to games. I play them for a while and then I put them down. I have enjoyed Dune 2, most of the Command and Conquer titles, Age Of Empires 2, Transport Fever, Anno 1800 and many others, and even though some of them allow for online gameplay, none of them have made me give up so much of my free time involuntarily, given me such high levels of frustration or just generally left me feeling so empty.
Should this be made illegal? Should it have the same warning labels of tobacco products? Should these game developers be legally forced disclosing their “RNG” algoritms to their customers like any other gambling product? Should they be prohibited from advertising this game as a game?
The only answer I have is to the question “Should I still give my time and energy to this very questionable business practice?”

Hi, Darkroom! I plan on shooting my first roll of Rollei Infrared 400 tomorrow with an R72 filter. I've been reading a ton about this film and I'm at the point of analysis paralysis and need to ask for help. I am definitely overthinking this so bear with me. TLDR at bottom.
I have read to take a standard photo to use as a baseline against the other exposures and then bracket exposures at EI 12 and 6 with the R72 filter.
The datasheet however says this film has a "a nominal sensitivity of ISO 200/24° to 400/27°" but the datasheet development times for this film list it as ISO 400. Which speed should I use as my baseline exposure, 200 or 400?
I'm using HC110 to develop. The development times in the datasheet says 5 minutes. Massive Dev Chart says 6 minutes at ISO 6 and and 8:45 at ISO 12. Since I will be bracketing a considerable amount of stops from ISO 200 (or 400?) what would be an acceptable development time for a test roll with so many different exposures?
I know the point of bracketing is to see what ISO one should be shooting at for the desired effect one wants but there has to be a middle ground somewhere for the development time, right?
TLDR: What ISO should this film be rated at for a normal baseline exposure? When developing, what time should I use or does it even matter as I will see a result I like and stick with it? I plan to shoot my roll of 120 as follows: baseline photo, EI12, EI6, baseline, EI12, EI6, baseline photo EI12, EI6. Should I also throw in a shot at EI25?
Again, I know I'm overthinking this.

I live on the main floor of a house in Toronto since 2020-07. My landlord told me she's moving overseas for a job and wants to sell the house, and wants me to vacate so that the house will be sold without tenants. She gave me an N11, threatened to give me an N13, and then gave me an N12 -- all within 24 hours.
After giving me the N12, she also sent me an email requesting almost hundreds of dollars of "unpaid utilities" since 2021.
Our contract states:

The Tenant agrees to provide a $30.00 monthly pre-payment for hydro for the unit (for a total payment of $1,880.00 – base rent is $1,850.00 plus $30.00 utility payment). The Tenant is responsible for 20% of the Hydro bill of the property. The cost of utilities will be settled with all the Tenants on a 4-5 month basis (depending on utilities billing cycle).

I have paid her the rent+30$ on the first day of every month without fail. It was my understanding that this $30 roughly covers my portion of the hydro. Since 2020-07 until now she never told me or the other tenants that there are any outstanding payments and never sent us any bills.
A few months ago she asked us why the heating bill is very high, and I told her that it's possible the furnace is very old and should be inspected, and also that all our windows are terribly non insulated and let in air. I literally put duct tape around my windows because I can feel a breeze when I sleep with them closed. She has known about this for a long time but refused to investigate or repair the windows.
As mentioned above, now she told me she wants me to pay hydro plus heating since 2021 and sent me a bill for 25% of the bills. I have a few issues with this:

• The contract states I'm responsible for 20% and she sent me a bill for 25% (probably because the number of tenants in the entire house has changed)
• The contract states that it should be settled every 4-5 months. She hasn't mentioned this in over 2.5 years, I don't think I should be expected to backpay now for so long.
• The contract conflates the words "hydro" and "utilities" which is causing ambiguity. It says I will pay 30$ for hydro and that I owe 20% of hydro, yet the next sentence says utilities will be settled every 4-5 months, but doesn't say how they'll be settled. With this ambiguous wording, my inclination is to assume that the last one is a typo and she meant that every few months she'll check if my $30 cover the hydro or not. This also makes sense because the $30 is very close to the hydro bill for me. It is not even close when she includes heating
• In the event that I am expected to pay for heating, I feel that she is responsible for repairing windows and the furnace so that they don't cost unreasonably high (the monthly bill sometimes comes to over $800 for about 1500 sqft of living space, and we keep the temp at 72F).

I will agree to pay 20% of the last 5 months of hydro (minus my $30 prepayments), but I don't know if I have to pay everything she wants me to. I have a feeling she's doing this just to try to push us out of the house, like she's clearly demonstrated with her different eviction attempts in order to sell the house empty.
I'd like to speak to someone to know if I can legally only pay 20% of hydro for the past 5 months, without giving her more grounds to evict.

I'm not a big social media person, I've got 174 friends on Facebook, and they're all direct friends or family that I know. My account is pretty locked down and usually only my friends can see it. I post infrequently, maybe once a week at the most, and its mostly pictures I've taken of landscapes, buildings and cars I like, funny situations and cats. Mostly cats. I'll usually get between 10-20 reactions per post.
When I came out last year as a transgender woman, about 50 people reacted. (I wasn't expecting 100% response rate, a bunch of people don't really use their accounts, and I'm certain there are a bunch who also don't approve of me being trans.) I've made a few other posts about being trans, how I got here, how its going, you know. Those posts got decent responses from people, not as much as the first surprise bombshell, but fine. I generally try not posting negative or political things.
With the severe uptick in anti-trans legislation this year, I've gotten pretty worried about my future health and safety. Knowing I have some conservative friends and family members in my Facebook circle, I felt I needed to bring awareness to this issue. When some right-wing blowhard got up at CPAC and said 'transgenderism needs to be eradicated entirely', I made a Facebook post about it, basically saying I was really worried about this. 7 people reacted to it.
A few days later after the right had time to clarify their position on this, I made another post showing holes in the arguments. This time, only 4 people reacted to it.
After the shooting in Nashville last week, I posted an image showing how the right wing narrative of the 'trans shooter epidemic' was completely false, 6 people reacted to it.
For Trans Day of Visibility, I shared a YouTube video of a person reading the story 'Red, A Crayon's Story' by Michael Hall (a children's story which the right wing banned from school libraries in 2021). Only 1 person reacted. My wife told me this morning she actually had to manually search for my profile just to see what I had posted.
I'm getting a similar response on Instagram as well.

Booted up the game on my 3070 FE. Immediately fans run full speed and core temp shoots to 115c on the gpu. Fps limited to 60 and it still keeps my fans ramped fully.
