2023.03.21 18:41 WluttyShore feedback regarding the fsoa thread

not really a great precedent on the responses from jagex honestly.
I woke up (freedom time) and saw the thread with 11 responses directly to fsoa and a few more to unrelated fsoa questions. I saw in the thread they claim they will respond to more comments through the day and as more comments come in. I saw a comment of a jmod saying they would make a damage table like they did with animate dead to show the community the nerf on paper (like they should’ve done without us asking for it IMO.)
just absolute radio silence after that. no more updates, no more responses, no table to show the damage. instead we have a really smart community member post math on the proposed changes INSTEAD OF JAGEX DOING SO
if you guys say you want a discussion with us then you kind of have to be prepared to have a discussion with us, not just start it and then jump ship when you realize you poked the bear.
this really just highlighted another really bad showing of communication and I was kind of hoping we would find another shauny with mod doom but it seems that I was mistaken. this whole proposed change seemed so half assed with no numbers, nothing concrete, just them saying they want to take what’s good in the game and nerf it. even admitting that we are the QA testers in a couple of the comments; that really doesn’t put a lot of faith in future updates and especially this one if you ask to communicate with us and then just shut the door on us. just my 2 cents

2023.03.21 13:53 toooldforthisnonsens What questions should I be asking the person I am replacing?

After being fired for digital nomading, with permission, I decided that after 19 years of in-production, development experience, it was time to move into management. I've led small teams in the past, and in my personal life I have extensive experience leading teams in high stress, life or death, situations.
However........I've never taken over a role or project while the person I'm replacing was actually around. I'm stepping into VP of Technology. The person in the role currently is a contractor and decided to move on. He's sticking around until the end of the month.
Usually, I'm the one handed a project and told "the last dev stopped responding 10 months ago, can you fix all the fires?" I dive in and fix the fires with zero data/knowledge transfer from the previous person.
I've worked at startups for the past 15 years or so. The new org is a government entity. They have product managers, project managers, UI/UX, QA, devops.
Yesterday was my first day at the new gig. It was.....awkward on so many levels. It's the first business day in 19 years where I think I didn't program a single line of code. I sat in on the morning stand-up meeting, where my new boss thanked the outgoing person and introduced me. I was invited to about 8 meetings over the next two weeks. I read through the massive amount of documentation that they have. I reviewed their 2023 and 2024 roadmap.
Then I sat around wondering what I should be doing. I feel like I should be asking dozens of questions of the person I'm replacing, but nothing is coming to mind. They have their devops squared away. They have project management squared away. All the devs have plenty of tasks lined up.
Am I missing something? I don't want to be the butter bar lieutenant.
Side note, I've seen a lot of people asking about salaries, raises, and how hot the interview market is. Lateral move positions were offering a 50% salary increase. I've been interviewing for a few weeks and have had roughly 2 interviews a day, for 2 or 3 weeks straight. It's the hottest market I've ever experienced.

2023.03.21 13:21 Roltan94 Tips about topics for master thesis/diploma thesis

Greetings Reddit!
My education in software testing/QA is coming to its end this summer and soon after my internship is done, all left is a master thesis/diploma thesis. The problem is that my head just goes around in circles what to write about.
My internship has been as a QA Tester in game development, so thinking about something in that line, but anything works that is connected to testing.
I had thoughts about automation in traditional QA testing or how AI can change QA. Also thinking about if agile development is the right thing for game development and how it differs from other software development.
Anyone have any more interesting ideas?

2023.03.21 04:16 clear_skyz200 Advice. Job Offer from a company. Transition from .Net dev to Java dev

Nag apply ako to this company for Senior Software Engineer without any exp sa java. Should I grab it? namimiss ko na mag coding lalo na mag full time at saka may training nman daw for Java.
Current Salary: 34k Salary Offer: 50k and may mga benefits na wala sa current company ko like Health Insurance and allowance.
What do you guys think? Natatakot ako baka ma burnout or tuloyan mawalaan na confidence if I stay here in the company ko dahil sa free time lang na ako nag cocoding at study new techs.

2023.03.21 03:47 donovanwest Any Gamers Actually Watched Mythic Quest?

If you don't know it's and Apple TV+ original comedy about a game dev studio making an MMO. I remembered seeing an ad for it at E3 and thinking it looked super cringe, but my mom of all people got me to watch it and I think it's actually pretty good. There's plenty of things that are inaccurate to game dev and maybe a bit of cringe. The testers especially are weird since we all know way too much about how QA works (they aren't respected though so they got that right). However they do nail some things about gaming culture and overall it's a pretty funny show that sometimes gets serious with really good acting and directing IMO. I just haven't seen a single person talking about it online and wanted to know if anyone here has even seen it.

2023.03.21 02:24 IWillBiteYourFace Advice for the best route to find online work

I am well-versed in Vue, Django, and Fastify among others, and have experience in building full stack small-scale web apps for internal business purposes. I have working knowledge of ReactJS, even though I didn't quite enjoy working with it. I have also worked as a QA Engineer and have working knowledge of Selenium. I had a small freelance firm of my own, but local projects have dried up since the pandemic. What should be the easiest trajectory for me from here? I am looking to work as a freelancer or a part time dev/tester online, and am willing to learn a new framework if necessary. I have been perusing the Cypress docs, and find it interesting, and will probably learn it by this month.
The advice I have received till now is to
  1. work as a QA engineer
  2. work as a Shopify developer
My expectation of monthly income right now is about $2000/month, but it should definitely have room to grow with time. I need to start by end of next month. Which platforms should I look into for work? I have tried upWork and Freelancer, but they are oversaturated with developers willing for work for peanuts.
Since I don't even know where to start, any advice would be highly appreciated. I am located in Asia, if that is important, but my working hours are flexible.

2023.03.20 20:02 shuckoystah Trying to decide between CPIM vs. CSCP

I (24M) have been working for a major 3PL since 2020. First as a an intern in brokerage and then being hired full time as a logistics/load planner (currently a senior account executive). The pandemic hit and the only internships I could find were for the "shotgun hiring" 3PLs. I graduated in Spring 2021 with a degree in SCM and my only prospect being the full time role with the company I interned with.
In these two years my salary has been entirely stagnant (53k/year) and my role has evolved into mix of account development and internal QA where I've gained no real worthwhile experience outside of the baseline knowledge needed to book and track freight, read paperwork and send out the monthly report that requires minimal interaction and/or analytical input on my end. I never really had a desire to get into logistics and I knew the many downsides of entering it (dead ends left and right) and the difficulty in trying to leave it for other areas of supply chain but I didn't have other options.
Most of my work experience is only going to help in hopping to other 3PLs which even if I wanted to, I've been barred due to my NCA (I've had applications thrown out because of this).
In an effort to break into other areas of supply chain, I'm seriously considering investing in APICS but I'm unsure if I should go with CPIM or CSCP. To keep my goals somewhat straight forward, I'm looking to apply for entry level roles either as a supply chain analyst or planning roles. I understand the differences in the two certs, but with my main goal of just trying to get out of logistics and into the rest of supply chain with a higher salary range (60-80k) I'm uncertain of which cert would be most beneficial.
Is there anyone here with a similar education/work history as me that could help shed some light? Thank you! Hopefully this post also helps others discerning APICS certs:)

2023.03.20 17:04 mentorpiece Free lecture #4: SQL for software testing beginners- on air!

Join: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEHMAb_Gn-Q
How to magically manage information of hundreds of millions of records in databases? Yes, a software tester does not need to know SQL as deeply as a developer, but she should be able to do basic operations. The next class will show that it's not that hard.
Today is the open class # 4 of the course "Pre-Middle QA: Manual testing from scratch + Internship", group 2023.2.
Topic: "SQL for software testing beginners".
This lecture, like any other Mentorpiece course, begins with a mentor checking what basic knowledge students have learnt from the textbook while preparing for it. Therefore, before watching the lecture, you should study the appropriate block of the textbook - otherwise, little will be understood. In this case - it's block #03 SQL Queries.
Alas, this is the last open class. The next lectures will be for the course students only.

2023.03.20 16:25 ReleaseObjective Recently Promoted; Should I Bother with an Outside Offer?

I work third shift in the Quality department at a small FDA regulated manufacturing plant. I started in the lab and within a year I got promoted to a QA (quality assurance) position which I just started training for. I even have another review coming up in June where I’m expecting to get another small raise.
I love the work itself. It’s fairly straightforward and I like the people I work with/for. I even get paid slightly above average for my area starting out. The thing is that 3rd shift is rough. My fiancé is a resident with three years left in their program so I very rarely see them. Not seeing my fiancé can be taxing and I miss being on the same schedule of everyone else as I like outside/social hobbies.
Recently, a smaller manufacturer in the area has reached out to me for a second interview for a lab position that’s 1st shift, is salaried (w/ full benefits), pays the same and is like 6 minutes closer in location.
A few things concern me; -they recently had a hiring freeze as confirmed by someone I know who works there (it’s been a three or four weeks since my initial interview and I got no word after I sent a confirmation request email) -it would technically be a demotion (as QA is generally the next step from the lab in QC- I think it’s been a good career move thus far) -I worry being salaried could entail longer working days.
I’m still gonna schedule a second interview to get a better idea of what they’re like but if y’all have any advice I’d appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

2023.03.20 14:36 RedeemedStirling Help! Should I (foreigner) accept a job in Katowice?

Hi! I'm new around here. I'm from Spain but I have passed an interview to work as a game beta tester in Katowice. However, the net salary is around 3700zl and I don't know if that is enough to live on my own.
Numbeo.com says the average cost without rent is around 2700 zlotys. Is this accurate? Would I be living on the edge? I presume living in a studio apartment would be almost impossible.
Thanks in advance!

2023.03.20 13:59 Wolfmanscurse AITA for narrowly hitting a selfish single mother and her annoying brats with my car while they played in the streets?

For context, I (21, M, IQ of 198) am independently wealthy and have no kids so I am above the law.
Yesterday, I was on my way home (Southbound) from an incredibly grueling shift at my job (Pillow tester, 8 AM - 10 AM, Work from home possible, 198,000 Yearly salary). I just wanted to get home in time to catch my favorite television show (Judge Joe Brown) before getting a healthy amount of sleep (14 hours).
While driving home, I came to a stop sign and had to wait as a selfish single mother (35, F, Fat, Ugly, Flat chest, Dead beat, Wendy's manager) lead her 5 disabled crotch spawn ((2, F, Crippled), (3, M, Polio survivor), (5, M, Vegan), (6, M, Autistic (Yuck)), (9, F, she looked normal but come on she's a kid)) through the crosswalk, selfishly making me sit and wait. The woman was obviously taking her brats over to her sister's house (21, F, giant bazongas, gamer, single, Aquarius, child-free) to selfishly make her watch them while she attended the single moms in support of the nazi invasion of puppy land convention.
I sat patiently for an eternity (15 seconds) before deciding that I would not sit by and be gaslit by the selfish mother any longer. I honked my horn and floored it in my car (Porsche Taycan Turbo S.) I barely avoided hitting them, but the polio child iron lung scratched my car door as I sped by.
I got home in time to watch my show (Judge Joe Brown) but I had to pause when a cop showed up at my house. I explained the situation and called the single mom's sister to confirm my story. The cop agreed I did the legal thing and we high-fived. However, he did say that I should be more considerate next time because children are our future or some garbage.
That got me wondering. So I decided to post here for opinions (validation). Am I the asshole?
