So I’m British. We pay sales tax in the form of VAT which is included in the price of an item. If it says £5 on the sticker on the shelf, that’s what we pay at the till.
I know that the USA can be different. I’m visiting Florida, South Carolina and New York City - My main shopping day will be in New York and I’ll most likely spend my money on makeup/skincare/body care that I can’t get in the U.K. or it’s way cheaper in the US.
Will these be liable to sales tax, and at what rates so I can work out whether the purachase is cheaper in the U.K.

2023.04.02 10:12 XenSid TCL TV - remove unwanted paid service buttons/disable function
Hello,
Is there a way to remove/disable/neuter my TCL remote (rc902v far1) so that the Disney+, Netflix, Stan etc buttons are either disabled or require double presses to proc or similar?
I tried using the button mapper app but it will not let me select those keys.
If I pick the remote up off the couch I will smoosh those buttons and the media I was playing flicks off as a new app opens and I then don't have any "back" button to return to what I was watching.
Also, is it possible to change the home screen from a shop full of paid ads for movies I could watch on different services?
When I turn on the TV, if I was watching Netflix previously I have to navigate to the app via the button or the menus, there is no continue option front and center, if I use my Kodi server, I cannot have the app show on the "For you" screen, there is no resume function, I cannot seem to program that on to my remote.
Why is the TV so biased to paid services? Why can't I add shortcuts to what I want to be upfront?
The TV wants me to spend $100+ a month on streaming services instead of letting me use it as a TV as I want. It is very annoying.

I (22 F) started dating (27 M) almost two years ago and it has been an amazing relationship so far. We live together, have two cats, and have met each other’s families.
I saw a message from my partner’s great-aunt that truly hurt me and I can’t shake it off. For context: I had stayed with his family in his home town to spend more time with them. It was a great time! I learned so much about them, their culture, etc. I am so appreciative and thankful that they were willing to invite me into their home and spend time with me. While there, his mom cooked most meals and did grocery shopping. I offered several times to help clean after dinner and usually was told to not worry about it and that I was a guest. Despite this, many times I did do the dishes after dinner because, to me, it isn’t his mom’s job to do everything, even if I am a guest.
The message from his great-aunt (mom’s aunt) was that she was “angry” because I was “very disrespectful” during my stay by “not offering my hands” to help around the house. This genuinely confused me because I thought I was very respectful and did dishes and helped in the garden many times. I offered after nearly every meal and was always very appreciative. She said that I wasn’t “trying to impress” his family or “trying to fit in” to their culture (even though he was born in the United States, doesn’t speak much Chinese). She said that he should “keep his options open” because he is “an attractive man and many able women that want him” and “women like to manipulate and control men”.
I guess I am just hurt because I had no idea that I was potentially upsetting his mom and was being disrespectful. His mom has never brought this up to either of us and texts me often, sends cute messages saying how she is proud of me, sends gifts (a bracelet and house slippers), etc.
He told me not to worry about this because he knows his mom and immediate family like me. He says his great-aunt is overcritical of everyone, likes to gossip, and is very traditional. I’m just worried because I had no intention of coming off as disrespectful and do try to connect with his family and their culture (my research for graduate school is on Asian German studies and I started learning Mandarin).
I’m not sure if I should do anything or if there is anything to do. My feelings are hurt and I’m worried his family does not like me. At the end of the day what matters is how we feel about each other but I would love for his family to like me so we can connect and be close with them.

Can someone please help me out? Last year, I had a fair amount of views and orders, I was pretty happy about it. Unfortunately, I had to press pause on my shop for a few months because of health problems. I got out of vacation mode roughly two months ago and only got 2 orders since then (when I would have 3-4 per week before pausing my shop, which was perfect to manage with my other full time job).

I did well for a while.. in November I didn't think I'd ever make it past two weeks - I made it 40 days first try.. then went to a holiday party and wanted to 'loosen up.' I'm socially awkward, but when drinking feel like people like me better.
Made it another two weeks, then there was another company party..
Then another two weeks.. I was doing it just because I felt like it again. Every time I would feel like garbage the next day, and I would say to myself 'it's okay, you had your fun. Now really stop.
Buthen I kept letting myself do it.
I was pretending I had it under control, but I was just starting to slip back into the hole. The cycles were getting shorter.
Something happened at work that broke my heart a bit. I went to a meeting on a Monday after criticizing my successors work on their third day. We had what I truly feel was a minor argument. I went in the next day, and was fully ready to apologize.. he left after 5 minutes and didn't say a word to me, I didn't even try to apologize for fear of making it worse.
I didn't think much of it other than it seemed like somewhat of a punk move to not hash it out.
I know I can be an asshole - he wasn't wrong to be offended, but I'm a contractor.. someone's always salty about something on the jobsite or in the shop, most people are alcoholics and that's just how it is in the trades.. it's sad.. I've had public arguments with the old owner of our company, and he has had arguments with everyone else.. he is also not such a nice guy - to me, being nice isn't how we kept the shop alive so he could sell the company and get us all better positions. I gave my life to the job for this opportunity, and it was absolutely worth it.. but I'm tired, this successor was supposed to be my escape from breaking my body to run the shop.
I drank all weekend. Then vowed on the following Monday to stop.
When I went to work, I was essentially thrown under the bus. The new guy said he was afraid I would hurt him. I'm not nice, but I was not overly aggressive about my comments. Our old owner was WAY meaner.. never said anything nice, but he knows his stuff and strives for perfection. His comments aren't meant to be hurtful, nor are mine.. those around us just kind of accept that we are the way we are.
I went in on a Monday and was made a martyr as an example to the people I've worked with for years. The old way is gone, everyone gets a pay on the back and a participation trophy.. I get two forces days off to 'think about what I'd done' and write a report on it.. I left the meeting and got smashed for two days
I went into work after my leave, and submitted to not being allowed at the shop I built so this new guy could even have a job.. there was no hand off, he is failing miserably without me, I don't think he knew what he was getting into.. I can't believe they hired someone who's never managed anytime to manage the animals I call friends and coworkers.
I have to meet the new guy remotely, in the presence of others.. it's so insane to me. I'm obviously still quite upset about it - but ultimately it got me the office job I wanted.. tho I didn't want to get it this way.
As I can down, and made amends with the new guy to a certain extent, I realized I had drank every day for weeks.. just like before. Drinking didn't make anything better, who'd have thought?
It's day one again, and I'm sick of writing stories like this for myself to read through and meditate on so I can force myself to stop.. I need to come here every day again. If it doesn't stick I'm going to AA.
I love this community, don't even really care if anyone reada these posts.. I just know I'm safe here.
I've already made it through the day. The shakes aren't as bad this time but I'm prepared to not sleep for a few days. I know it gets better, eyes on the prize.

I know I can be an asshole - he wasn't wrong to be offended, but I'm a contractor.. someone's always salty about something on the jobsite or in the shop, most people are alcoholics and that's just how it is in the trades.. it's sad.. I've had public arguments with the old owner of our company, and he has had arguments with everyone else.. he is also not such a nice guy - to me, being nice isn't how we kept the shop alive so he could sell the company and get us all better positions. I gave my life to the job for this opportunity, and it was absolutely worth it.. but I'm tired, this successor was supposed to be my escape from breaking my body to run the shop.
I drank all weekend. Then vowed on the following Monday to stop.
When I went to work, I was essentially thrown under the bus. The new guy said he was afraid I would hurt him. I'm not nice, but I was not overly aggressive about my comments. Our old owner was WAY meaner.. never said anything nice, but he knows his stuff and strives for perfection. His comments aren't meant to be hurtful, nor are mine.. those around us just kind of accept that we are the way we are.
I went in on a Monday and was made a martyr as an example to the people I've worked with for years. The old way is gone, everyone gets a pay on the back and a participation trophy.. I get two forces days off to 'think about what I'd done' and write a report on it.. I left the meeting and got smashed for two days
I went into work after my leave, and submitted to not being allowed at the shop I built so this new guy could even have a job.. there was no hand off, he is failing miserably without me, I don't think he knew what he was getting into.. I can't believe they hired someone who's never managed anytime to manage the animals I call friends and coworkers.
I have to meet the new guy remotely, in the presence of others.. it's so insane to me. I'm obviously still quite upset about it - but ultimately it got me the office job I wanted.. tho I didn't want to get it this way.
As I can down, and made amends with the new guy to a certain extent, I realized I had drank every day for weeks.. just like before. Drinking didn't make anything better, who'd have thought?
It's day one again, and I'm sick of writing stories like this for myself to read through and meditate on so I can force myself to stop.. I need to come here every day again. If it doesn't stick I'm going to AA.
I love this community, don't even really care if anyone reada these posts.. I just know I'm safe here.

I had my front brake system rebuilt last week with pads, rotors and calipers on both sides replaced. I'm only 30 miles into the new brakes and when I stop at slow speeds I'm getting traction loss and abs kicking on. No issue at higher speed however, only at like 25 or less is it noticeable. At one point my brake service light came on and shut back off after a minute or two. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it is still topped off and fluid doesn't look weird at all. Is this normal for the break in period of these parts? Should I have another shop look at it? I haven't driven it much because I'm getting new ball joints on Monday, so I can have another shop check it out then if I need to
