2023.03.22 02:38 Potential_Wolf4137 Why does the Bulwark still call itself conservative?
For Bulwark ads I see, they still bill themselves as a “conservative” but sane media outlet. When Tim was talking to Kari Lake he referred to himself as a “moderate Republican”—I mean c’mon he’s not a Republican, just like Charlie Sykes is not really a conservative. I was genuinely shocked to find out that JVL used to be a conservative and was friends with Tucker Carlson because he seems like such a Democrat to me. Being a Democrat is not a bad thing, so why don’t they just publicly say the support the Democratic Party. It’s not even that Republicans have gone crazy, it’s that they genuinely side with Democratic policies. If you went down a list of policy preference, does anyone here think that Charlie Sykes or Tim Miller would have more in common with Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Chris Sununu or even Jeb Bush; than they do with even progressive democrats like AOC or even Ilhan Omar? There has been major realignments between the parties before, so why can’t they admit that they have realigned to being Democrats? There’s not one thing I can think of that they wouldn’t agree with the Democrats over even if the Republicans were sane. Again, there’s nothing wrong with being Democrats, so why can’t they bring themselves to publicly saying it?

2023.03.22 00:43 Catvac-u-um_adnase Agriculture news March 20, 2023-Flooding from cyberattacks? * Weather forecasting gets scrutiny * Vilsack to be keynote speaker at Agri-Pulse policy summit
With full reservoirs, cyberattacks on dams worry lawmakers
A state Senate committee has advanced a measure to prepare critical infrastructure for cyberattacks. Sen. Melissa Hurtado of Bakersfield pointed out that previous attacks have attempted to release water from a dam in New York and successfully shut down meat processing plants.
One expert testifying in support warned the federal government would be overwhelmed if a mass cyberattack threatened food, water and power. Sen. Bob Archuleta of Pico Rivera feared an attack could release water from reservoirs during winter storms, leading to catastrophic flooding downstream.
Remember: Last year the state signed into law a separate bill from Hurtado on cybersecurity for water infrastructure. It tasked the state’s emergency services office with developing a strategic plan to assist the food, agriculture, water supply and wastewater sectors with protections.
Wine Country wants to improve weather forecasting
A new bill capitalizes on emerging forecasting technology to better prepare California for sudden droughts.
Forecast-informed reservoir operations, or FIRO, aims to retain as much water in reservoirs as possible ahead of storms and anticipated runoff while enabling better flood control as well. AB 30 would expand FIRO to more parts of the state. It gained unanimous support.
Why it matters: Mark Fenstermaker, a lobbyist for Sonoma Water, explained that 1960s-era federal rules led the district in 2013 to release 30,000 acre-feet of water from Lake Mendocino. It didn’t rain for another three years. In 2019 a minor rule change enabled the district to retain more in the reservoir.
Yet the lake all but dried up again in 2021, leading cities to cut water use in half and dairies and wineries to get creative in adapting to extreme scarcity.
Vilsack keynotes Agri-Pulse policy summit
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will headline the annual Agri-Pulse Ag and Food Policy Summit today in Washington.
This year’s conference will focus on issues critical to ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability and food security.
The summit will feature interviews with the leaders of the House and Senate Ag committees and discussions with a diverse array of experts and producers. They’ll debate a range of issues, including the challenges facing beginning and minority farmers as well as future needs for risk management, agricultural research and nutrition assistance.
Registration for the summit is still available today online, or in person at the National Press Club.
By the way: The Biden administration’s “waters of the U.S.” rule officially takes effect today, an issue almost certain to occupy time at a Senate hearing this week with EPA Administrator Michael Regan. A Senate vote to eliminate the rule also is nearing.

Senate bill would freeze Adverse Effect Wage Rate
A bipartisan Senate bill introduced by a couple of unlikely allies would freeze the Adverse Effect Wage Rate at last year’s level for the rest of 2023.
Sens. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said farmers in their states who use the H-2A program are getting squeezed financially by increases in the AEWR. In Georgia, the rate went from $11.99 to $13.67 per hour this year, up 14% from 2022. The rate in North Carolina was set at $14.91 an hour, up 5%.
“I’m leading this bipartisan legislation to prevent damage to Georgia’s agricultural producers,” Ossoff said. Tillis said the wage rate “has long outpaced the rate of inflation and become unsustainable.”
Bipartisan, bicameral bill would expand AgARDA authorization
Ag groups and land-grant universities are backing a bill introduced by Sens. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., and Roger Marshall, R-Kan., to double the authorization of the Agriculture Advanced Research and Development Authority (AgARDA) from $50 million to $100 million.
The bill, which is expected to be joined by a companion in the House from Reps. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., and Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, also would expand AgARDA’s scope to address animal and plant pathogens and pests.
The agency was authorized by the 2018 farm bill but has not been established yet because of limited funding.
More bills: Another bipartisan, bicameral bill would expand biochar research efforts. In the House, Iowa Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrats Kim Schrier of Washington and Chellie Pingree of Maine have introduced the Biochar Research Network Act. In the Senate, Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Jon Tester, D-Mont., John Thune, R-S.D., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, reintroduced companion legislation earlier this month.
Meanwhile, bills dropped by Republican Rep. Morgan Griffith of Virginia and Democratic Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota would require the FDA to regulate hemp-derived cannabidiol, or CBD, as a dietary supplement and food and beverage additive.
Warnock: Debt relief 'can't come fast enough' for underserved farmers
Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga. is urging USDA to act quickly on debt relief programs for economically challenged farmers who have historically been discriminated against.
“I will continue to hold USDA’s feet to the fire,” Warnock said on Agri-Pulse Newsmakers this week. “We passed the legislation, and now we’ve just got to make sure that we get people the resources they need.”
Relief "can't come fast enough" for farmers who experienced discrimination, he said.
The Inflation Reduction Act allocated $5.3 billion to farm debt relief in August 2022.

“This is a self-inflicted crisis of epic proportions that is putting lives on the line.” — Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones of San Diego, responding to Gov. Newsom’s announcement on Saturday of a new effort to lower healthcare costs.

RULES: | |
- The giveaway will be open for ONE full day until 5PM tomorrow. There will be no tags for this raffle. It will end officially at 5PM on the second day, any requests thereafter will be ignored.
- If you participated in any month from March through August 2022, you are eligible to request spots up to six random spots total (that’s if you participated in all SIX months). With a TOP LEVEL COMMENT you may request up to six random spots and post the permalinks to YOUR PAID spot request links (one link from EACH month). You may submit ONLY ONE LINK PER MONTH. Given how large this is going to be, we HIGHLY suggest you visit the last giveaway here, to see how to do this correctly. Find your paid spot request permalinks beforehand and make sure you know the exact dates of your participation because Reddit has fooled many users. Freebie participation does not count. Spots in cancelled raffles do not count. Spots that were removed for non-payment certainly does not count. We will not allow donating your spot to anyone else for this giveaway. YOU MUST POST YOUR REQUEST AND LINKS IN ONE SINGLE TOP-LEVEL COMMENT. Given how large this is, we will ignore additional comments from any user who attempt to add additional months. The number of months you posted originally will be the maximum number of spots you will be eligible for.
- If you are caught calling a spot with an alt or try to cheat in any way or form, you will be perma-banned immediately with no exceptions. Do NOT send modmail to get whitelisted or upgraded during this period. And do not send modmail or reply to us asking why you were skipped and pooped. You should have read the rules in advance. Any such messages will be immediately archived.
- Not following the rules will result in one poop. Examples that will get you one poop flair: request a spot without a link, post a link to the wrong month, post links from the same month, post a link to the raffle itself (and not your specific spot request), post a comment underneath your first error with links, or delete/edit your spot request. Any of these will result in one poop flair. If you commit another error afterwards, that will be a second poop (and immediate 1-week ban if 2nd poop, or 1-month ban if it results in 3rd poop and your request will not be honored for the giveaway). If you already had a poop flair that has not expired and you incur an infraction during this giveaway, you will be banned accordingly and you will not be allowed to participate in this giveaway. If you are skipped, that means you made an error and you will receive a poop flair.
- HOW TO FIX YOUR ERROR: Make a NEW top level comment if you want to try again. But if you make another error at this point, this will result in a ban and your request will be ignored for the giveaway and you will not be allowed to participate in this giveaway.
- Once the raffle window closes, all slots will be SHUFFLED and the bot called for ONE winner. The winner will send modmail with their info. It takes a lot of effort on the part of several mods to check all the links to make sure that they link to your paid spot request to completed raffles and that the dates correspond to the correct months. If you send PMs or chats to any mods or send modmail during the giveaway period asking what you did wrong, why you were pooped, or why you were skipped, they will all be ignored. Do not reply to the mod team comments stating you were skipped and pooped asking why, and you should not reply beneath with the correct links. You should have done your homework by reading the rules carefully and following them. LEARN HOW TO READ AND HOW TO POST CORRECT LINKS BEFOREHAND.

2023.03.20 22:19 rainierirainieri Voters Guide For Real People (Taken from Nextdoor)
Surprisingly good content on Nextdoor. The post:
Let's laugh at local politics.
"Unpolitically Correct Voters Guide for Real People"
*Much like Tucker Carlson's TV show, this post is for entertainment purposes only. (Side note: my lawyer is also Tucker Carlson's lawyer and he told me to say that so I can't be held accountable for being legally braindead)*
Wayne Williams - Do you love water restrictions? Do you love traffic? Do you love the establishment? Do you love puppet politicians? Then you'll love Wayne Williams. Directly in the pockets of developers, Williams is the choice for anyone who wants unregulated growth that will force those in charge of our water infrastructure to make difficult decisions when our supply reaches a critical point. In his defense, he may actually be a good guy but a ventriloquist dummy is only as good as the person with their hand up his ass.
John "Tigger" Tiegen - You know that family member that ruins every thanksgiving dinner with endless schizophrenic rants about the deep state? This is who they would vote for if they weren't so woke to know that the voting machines are being controlled by the spectre of Mao Zedong. But they know a workaround to ensure their candidate gets into office: drive around with flags flying from their truck. And obviously if that doesn't work then the back up is just claiming election fraud.
Kallan Rodebaugh - The only good candidate. Not tainted by any Facebook narratives. Doesn't attack his opponents. All campaign donations go to Springs Mission. He has way better hair than any other choices. Can lift more than any other choices.
Daryll Glenn - This is the only candidate who will end the COVID lockdowns that Obama has inflicted on this country. Okay, sure, they have ended, but he'll travel back in time and end them. And sure, Obama isn't in office, but anyone who likes Glenn knows that Obama is teamed up with George Soros and Bill Gates to implant 5g chips in the populace and control them, hence Obama is still in charge. Glenn will also fight back against the controllers of the Jewish space lasers that have been the cause of wildfires. Voting for him gets you a coupon code for MyPillow, so that's awesome.
Yemi - You know that warm fuzzy feeling you got when you voted for Obama because of all the hope and change and what not, then under Obama we drone struck a Yemeni wedding and it and we all were just like, "yeah, I definitely believe that I'm a leftist by voting for that" and then you were all like "orange man put kids in cage, I'm voting against him" and then the new guy just got nicer cages for the kids and you were all like "yeah, that's awesome I definitely think I'm a leftist for that"? Remember? Pepperidge farm remembers. Well, you can revive that feeling of neoliberal fetishistic disavowal by voting for a guy whose business was involved in wage theft and ignored sexual harassment allegations. Thank God (who he has personally spoken with, so there might be some collusion there) his supporters are telling people he wasn't to blame for those incidents because I haven't seen any evidence of him addressing the issue and clearing the air.
Christopher Mitchell - Finally, a candidate who has briefly skimmed the cliff's notes of the Constitution and is running a campaign based on a 4th graders understanding of said Constitution. He claims he'll handle things objectively, which, one can very well infer from reading about him that his version of objectivity will hew so close to subjective that you'll question the definition of either term. Also, wtf is the cowboy revolution? Does that mean this guy owns a Ford f-150 that's never left concrete?
Andrew Dalby - The dude took out a $400,000 loan for his campaign and his largest expenditure, the largest single expenditure among any of the candidates, is a $275,000 transaction to Dark Money Advertising LLC. The joke writes itself folks. A true caricature of politics. And listen, as a straight white male, I'm just as excited as the next straight white male for the possibility of the ideals in Handmaids Tale being the law of the land, but dude, chill. Side note: When Yemi claims he talked to God he was actually talking to Dalby.
Lawrence Martinez - I feel like if I try to add any coherent thoughts to this guy's platform, people will accuse me of being involved with his campaign. Considering that incoherence has been the preference for the executive branch of our federal government since 2016, he should be the frontrunner. But it's very likely that reading this is the first time you've heard of him.
Sallie Clark - The "i WoN't vOtE fOr cArEeR PoLiTiCiAnS" crowd aren't voting for her, so that is one out of two good things going for her. Of the viable candidates, she's probably the best choice when it comes to the real issues Colorado Springs faces (the ones Wayne Williams will make worse). But, as evidenced by her attack ad on Williams (which, by principle I don't vote for candidates who run attack ads) which juxtaposed Williams as someone who would dare reach across the aisle in bipartisan fashion, she is representative of the plague that is American entertainment politics. In a race that is supposed to be non-partisan, she has assured us that she is a conservative republican who is fine with alienating an entire voting demographic. I also heard a rumor that she talks to Margaret Thatcher with a Ouija board but I can't prove that.
Jim Miller - Jim Miller will increase the distance that sex offenders can live from schools. Jim Miller will increase the distance that sex offenders can live from playgrounds. Jim Miller will increase the distance that sex offenders can live from Chuck E Cheese. That's pretty much the platform. Oh, he doesn't like potholes either. We can all get on board with that, right? Just deport the pedos to Teller county and fix the potholes? We should probably just vote for this guy.
Longinos - You know that joke, "How do you know if someone's vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you." Well, that's how Longinos is with his military career. And just like any panhandler that makes a dubious claim about being a veteran on their cardboard sign, he knows it's a strategy that works in this setting. He also makes the noble claim that he is the candidate for "the people" while being adamantly against everything half of "the people" want. He'll get up to 3% of the vote, which will at least beat Tiegen so that's fun.
Strand - Again, this is probably the first time you've heard of him. I think at this point it's probably a waste of time to waste my breath on someone all of us just heard of today because of this post. (The joke is that you all should have heard of him but he's been pushed far aside in this election)

| They must have changed the parameters of the game, I've finished the event a few times before but I've never placed even in the top 100. I'm leading my division with less than 4 hours to go and I haven't spent a dime! I did use 4000 diamonds to get extra pearls, but I didn't buy them, they were banked from past events, milestones, etc. I haven't bought diamonds in over a year. I started the event as soon as it opened, made my way to first, dropped to third and made my way back up to first without spending anything on boosts. And it helps with the division you're in and who else is spending money. Bank your diamonds, they come in handy! submitted by namkrow55 to idlemafiagame [link] [comments] |
