Hello, this is a member of the Solidarity Zone, responsible for finding resources.
Every month, together with you, we organize support for prisoners, which would be impossible to do on our own: we tell about what we succeeded (or not) in public reports. Today I want to focus on their last line and explain what we mean by technical costs.
🗄 Behind the public stories we tell are many small actions. Often, lengthy correspondence and communication with relatives end in nothing, work on such “unsuccessful” cases remains invisible, although it takes time and effort. And sometimes, on the contrary, a supportive comradely relationship with the prisoner grows out of the discussion of defense plans. We usually cover the unplanned expenses associated with support, but it seems fair to compensate them more often.
🌚 We sometimes get sick or injured, lose the devices we used to work on, or lose our source of income. At the same time, our work in the Solidarity Zone is volunteer work, for us it continues our activist biographies and is based on the values of mutual assistance and rejection of the idea of prisons. In situations where one of us is in danger of failing due to a lack of personal resources, we come to the rescue and make a collective decision to urgently support the participant.
🕳 A taxi with a heavy package to a pre-trial detention center, a printer cartridge to print the IRR (Internal Regulations), a circulation of handouts for an offline event - we do not describe these everyday details for you, but almost daily we encounter such expenses.
We want to keep our work transparent and share with you the decision to add something important to this list.
🥷 None of us are immune from persecution, we sometimes need lawyers ourselves, and an emergency departure leads not only to the loss of support, but also to unforeseen expenses. So that in the event of a threat we would be able to immediately ensure the safety of a member of the collective, we decided to create an emergency fund, where every month 5% of the total collection will be sent (that is, from what you donate in addition to fees for the protection of specific prisoners).
We call all the items of expenditure described above technical, because they ensure the functioning of the initiative itself. And in order to cope with our personal needs and partially compensate for the time spent working in the Solidarity Zone (to be honest, for the majority of us this work has become the main one in a year), we started Patreon (https:// www . patreon . com/solidarity_zone ). There we also share monthly successes and disappointments, talk a little more about support from other initiatives or institutions, post a little bit of behind-the-scenes content and offer sticker packs. Каждый месяц мы вместе с вами организуем поддержку заключённых, которая была бы непосильна в одиночку: о том, что нам удалось (или нет), мы рассказываем в публичных отчётах. Сегодня я хочу остановиться на их последней строчке и объяснить, что мы имеем в виду под техническими расходами.
🗄 За публичными историями, которые мы рассказываем, скрывается множество маленьких действий. Часто длительные переписки и общение с родственниками заканчиваются ничем, работа по таким «неудачным» делам остаётся невидимой, хотя отнимает силы и время. А иногда, напротив, из обсуждения планов на защиту вырастает поддерживающая товарищеская связь с заключённ_ым. Обычно связанные с поддержкой внеплановые траты мы берём на себя, но справедливым кажется почаще компенсировать их.
🌚 Мы иногда болеем или получаем травмы, лишаемся устройств, на которых работали, или теряем источник дохода. При этом наш труд в «Зоне солидарности» — волонтёрский, для нас он продолжает наши активистские биографии и опирается на ценности взаимопомощи и неприятия идеи тюрем. В ситуациях, когда от недостатка личных ресурсов у одно_й из нас труд заботы рискует дать сбой, мы приходим на помощь и принимаем коллективное решение о срочной поддержке участни_цы.
🕳 Такси с тяжёлой посылкой в СИЗО, картридж для принтера, чтобы напечатать ПВР (Правила внутреннего распорядка), тираж раздаточных материалов к оффлайн мероприятию, — мы не описываем эти повседневные детали для вас, но почти ежедневно сталкиваемся с подобными тратами.
Мы хотим, чтобы наша работа оставалась прозрачной, и делимся с вами решением добавить кое-что важное в этот список.
🥷 Никто из нас не застрахованы от преследования, адвокаты порой нужны нам самим, а экстренный отъезд приводит не только к потере опор, но и к непредвиденным расходам. Чтобы в случае угрозы у нас была возможность немедленно обеспечить безопасность участни_цы коллектива, мы решили создать экстренный фонд, куда каждый месяц будет отправляться 5% от общего сбора (то есть от того, что вы донатите помимо сборов на защиту конкретных заключённых).
Все описанные выше статьи расходов мы называем техническими, потому что они обеспечивают функционирование самой инициативы. А для того, чтобы осилить наши личные нужды и частично компенсировать время работы в «Зоне солидарности» (если честно, за год для большинства из нас этот труд стал основным), мы завели Патреон (https:// www . patreon . com/solidarity_zone).
